Quite right and nicely stated. I feel a chart coming on
geelongcrowds.png
Crowds for home games (not finals) versus Geelong, 1982 - 2015. Note that there are 2 distinct "eras" of Sydney home crowds: pre-1996 and post-1996. Note that all ANZ games are post-1996. So we could argue that averaging across all those years does not paint the whole picture.
The dashed orange line: median crowd at the SCG pre-1996. Around 12400. Sad times. Bonus points: what caused the upticks in 1986-1987?
The solid orange line: median SCG crowd post-1996. About 27200. Much better times.
The blue line: median crowd for ANZ games for the years Geelong have played there: 2005 - 2015. About 37000.
So sure: median (or average) crowd at ANZ is around 10000 more. But note that: that's for 5 games, 4 of which were played when Geelong were at their height and when ANZ was marketed specifically as the venue for "big games" (finals or the best opposition). And there have been SCG games in that time with bigger crowds than ANZ games.Comment

Sure. I selected Geelong because you did
More than happy to look at any other team or crowds in general.
I'm not disagreeing with you; ANZ crowds have been larger, it has hosted crowds that would not fit in the SCG. Just pointing out that there are many ways to look at the same numbers.Comment

Why would the finals still be at ANZ if we are playing all of our home games at the SCG though?Twitter @cmdil

That's pretty interesting...I'd assume that if we are playing a big Vic club (Hawks, Pies, Essendon, Tigers) that it would be at ANZ for capacity reasons, (maybe GWS, too) but against anyone else it'd be at the SCG.Twitter @cmdil

I can never work out why so many Swans fans refuse to turn up at the Olympic Stadium. It's a game of footy in our home city for goodness sake! People travel interstate all the time. I know members that go to Adelaide or Melbourne or Brisbane to watch the Swans but won't go to Homebush. Anyway, I've no doubt that if the Giants continue to play their exciting brand of footy and IF they keep winning then their crowds will build. In time, some of their marquee games will have to be played at a larger venue and I imagine that would be the Olympic Stadium. It's likely that the Swans home game would be at the SCG and the GWS game at the Stadium. I wonder if Swans members would turn up then.
BTW, somebody already mentioned it, but the Showground (Spotless) is a fantastic viewing ground for footy. Shame it's capacity is so limited.Run2Live,Live2RunComment

Did anyone venture up to the fancy bar at the top of lower level Aisles? I was around 109-110...
No one was in there and they were serving full strength beer AND Little Creatures Pale Ale on tap!!
I almost forgot to go back to my seat.
Still hate the place, this will just make the next few I attend a little bit more bearable.Comment

Yes, but does ANZ have a "member's look book" which is "more than a simple list of dress requirements, it is a style guide designed to inspire"?
Incidentally I have noticed at the past couple of SCG games that the crowd dress is falling below the inspirational standard set by this fine publication. In fact, some are even wearing football-club related attire. Pick up the slack, people! Slovenly style is *not* what games at the SCG are about.Comment

Your observations pretty much answer your question....Most Swans fans don't like ANZ stadium and the poor experience it delivers.I can never work out why so many Swans fans refuse to turn up at the Olympic Stadium. Barry would contend......
Most Swans fans are "latte sipping wankers from the Eastern suburbs" who aren't willing to go to Homebush, presumably because they are skin deep, fair weather supporters who won't travel more than 5 kms to watch their team.
I would contend......
It's an appalling venue to watch footy, designed specifically for the olympic games, it offers a lousy footy experience, in a soulless, atmosphere lacking, venue....

I tweeted the SCG and told them their book was a wankfest. How can some tosspot in pants and jacket 3 sizes too small and business shoes with no sox be a 'desired' look yet a nice knitted top without a collar won't get you thru the gate.Yes, but does ANZ have a "member's look book" which is "more than a simple list of dress requirements, it is a style guide designed to inspire"?
