PS. April may be the cruellest month, but last September was pretty bloody hard too.

Goodness, I never thought this thread would devolve to J Alfred Prufrock! What next? Shall we come and go talking of Michelangelo? Though Kurt is a bit like the David in a tight guernsey.

          Aaaaand, back on topic.

ANZ can have an incredible atmosphere (or so I have heard), if it is full or close to full.

I was so mad at the AFL for pricing the tickets to the 2012 prelim so high that they killed the crowd. There was no excuse to get less than 65k to that game.

            47000 members.
Does that mean members only go to 1 in 4 home games ?

It was still a great atmosphere the 2012 prelim with the second best moment being jettas running goal. The best moment of course was the final siren

Victorian members aren't keen on travelling to ANZ.

Although I did add 3 to the ANZ figure for round 1.

I think one of the challenges of a national competition is the demand or willingness to pay varies across clubs and location, hence the standardised pricing. However if the league wanted to maximise attendance, they'd be better off testing regional pricing to try and increase attendance in non-heartland markets. I know this creates a perception of unfairness (or another "subsidy/rort") but the league has to be realistic about the conditions they're operating in. They could measure who attended finals and where these major groups resided in. We could assume most finals would be played at MCG, giving VIC-based fans easier access to fuller capacity venues. WA-based teams are at capacity already so no point in lowering prices, pretty much same with SA. NSW and QLD finals could pass on the "discount" as a way to entice traveling supporters as a reasonable reduction factoring in the additional travel and accommodation. (Oh except traveling to VIC, supporters may feel disadvantaged).

Oh well at least I tried

When you're trying to build the game in areas where it's not the public's first preference, lowering prices is a no-brainer. And with a bigger crowd you get the best possible "enhancement of the match day experience", without all the bells and whistles and downright drivel you have to put up with at the MCG.

No, I do mean Victorian members. Barry always quotes the total membership number as if all members live in Sydney and all have memberships to 11 home games, when we all know they don't. I understand there are 10,000 or so Victorian members so it's misleading to count them among potential number of members who could attend home games.

We really should only take into account members with 11-home game memberships AND who live in Sydney when talking about how many members go (or don't go) to the SCG and/or ANZ but I don't know how many of those there are. Anyone know how we can find out?

Exactly. Without the statistics on what the composition of our membership base is, and what memberships they have, the assertions made by Barry about what proportion of members attend games is completely meaningless. It would be interesting to see what the break up of the membership base is.

Yup. Socceroos vs Uruguay: greatest night of my life. Will never experience an atmosphere, within Australia, like it again.

Otherwise, for the Swans, not a fan to drive down from the Central Coast to sit in a ground where the seats don't even face the right way.

Agreed. It was 3 weeks or so after we won the flag in 05, but the atmosphere at the Stadium against Uruguay was even better than it was at the MCG for the GF.

I sadly wasn't at the MCG for the grand final, but that atmosphere for the Uruguay qualifier was incredible - a brilliant night. This year's Asian Cup final wasn't half bad either, despite being at the wrong end of the ground to where all the goals were scored haha!
