Why would any club give GWS an easy ride? Hopper is top 5 by any measure. This smells really fishy, Melbourne again doing the dirty on us. I'm really angry if this is how it pans out tomorrow night.
Even Emma Quayle has Hopper at 7 and Kennedy at 14. The Giants are going to do far better than the Swans out of this bid matching thing.
Today's a draft of your epitaph

We should remember that the new system was specifically designed to stop the Swans from getting Mills and Dunkley without paying a big price, not to hurt the Giants. It has backfired a bit in that Mills looks likely to go at 3 not 1 and Dunkley's rating has dropped well down the draft order.

Maybe I've got my calculations wrong, but I see our picks moving up 7 or more positions due to gap filling by the time Dunkley is likely to be bid and that would give us around 800 points, so I don't see us going into deficit so long as he's bid for after Keays. There also seems to be a feeling that a deal may have been struck to let Dunkley go to a Victorian club. I'm okay however it turns out.

And I get why the hysteria started because at some stage last year we were minor premiers and as the system stood we might get two top 10 picks (as they were then rated) for a song.

If Kennedy goes at 14 then I will be truly amazed and the whole shebang should be called into question.

Paul Roos, the eyes of the football world are on you tonight to show some integrity. I have no issue with Kennedy going through to their second pick but if they pass on him at bid 9 then they really will be taking the piss. To be quite honest I'd be hoping that Gold Coast would nip this in the bud and take him at 8 (their adjusted pick 6) and if I was GWS I'd be having a word to them on the side encouraging them to do so even though they'd be matching it because they felt that was his value. GWS have the points get all their players regardless and the worst case would be one of their THREE first rounders next year slipping to the second round. GWS need to look at the bigger picture here.

On the other hand I'd be hoping that Gold Coast don't bid for Hipwood at 8 or 9 as some are predicting as that would hurt the Lions.

I agree with your points forecast too but I'd doubt that we've given any assurance to young Josh re letting him go through to a Victorian team and I certainly hope we have not. For all the lack of compassion and understanding about the go home factor for NSW and Qld clubs it is a bit rich for us to bend over backwards to do the right thing when the positions are reversed.

Once he gets away from his D-Head of an old man he'll be fine

Seems the bidding club has nothing to lose. What a joke!

Umm.. ok, I like how they have further justified this selection

Many will ask how Mills can be rated so highly when he has played just three games this year but he is a star. He is a top midfielder who will have a big say on the AFL landscape next year. It's good the bid came in at this place because it's reflective of his talent.

GWS getting off lightly so far with their main academy choices as well.
