Yes, but well before the whole booing = racist argument gained traction. If he liked these pages the week after the West Coast game I'd be much more concerned.

This kid will learn a huge lesson from being involved with Buddy, Goodsie, Micky O, Abaina Davis & co.
It's been well documented that most Australians are at least casually racist, so you can assume most of these young players are coming from that kind of social environment. You can't blame the kids for what they learn from their parents and adults in their community.

There have been numerous scientific studies which show that children are not naturally racist, but will easily mix with all races and ethnic groups. Their attitudes change due to the influence of their elders.

I would think that most professional players, once they enter the mixed racial environment of an AFL club quickly learn and change their attitude. I don't think there are many current racist footballers. One day Tyrone Leonardis will meet Adam Goodes and it will be one the great moments of his life. And he will tell those 'friends' who made the original comments just how foolish they were.

Pretty harsh to be condemning the kid straight up as a bad egg. Like none of you have ever made a mistake? Liking a page on Facebook, no matter how distasteful we may find it, is not a hanging offence, and nor should it be. It's not like he's a member of reclaim Australia FFS.

I suggest everyone take a chill pill, stop, and think how Goodesy would react to this. He may be sad but he would also see an opportunity to educate. When everyone (read Eddie & friends) got their knickers in a knot about the indigenous dance he suggested having a conversation with them. I've no doubt many at the club will have a conversation with the young man and set him on the right path.

I believe the sad part of all this is that Tyrone may have been influenced to think that way by either his peers (friends), or his family growing up. I hope that if Tyrone learns from this episode, those others will learn as well.

We have to give this kid a break I think. He would have copped a lot of crap in the last 24 hours and I'm not one for perpetually crucifying someone. Goodes is a legend - no doubting it. He will remain one. Tyrone has to grow into a man now. Maybe this is one of the biggest lessons he's going to learn in his first year.
                Agree.

A teenager going along with some popular garbage spewed out on social media ...Who'd of thought it?

It seems nobody on here knows this guy at all. I think we need to see how he responds.

Let's see how he presents himself over the coming pre season and season, before cutting him down for a couple of unpalatable likes.

And they are all 18 years old.

Don't know about you lot, but I am in envy mode right now. Although being 18 to me was spotty skin and waiting for the phone to go for a "Saturday night Date".

Some of the boys look like right babies, and some of them don't. But they are still all 18 years old.

Lots of time ahead of them, if they live long enough, and a lot of growth to come.

I am profoundly grateful that (as far as I know) the dopey things I did at 17 have not appeared on the net. Touch wood.

Could you footnote some of these well documented studies and who funded them?

People just need to get off their high horse and give the kid a break.

Read my post again. I'm not blaming the kid, but rather those in his community, particularly the adults, for his views on things. Being a Dermott Brereton fan would be enough to set a kid on the wrong track. I'm 100% for accepting his apology and I'm sure he feels really bad about the incident. I expect all will be fine in due course.

My grand daughter is 6 and since cr?che she has mixed with different races. Her parents do not make derogatory comments within the household about different races. Certainly not in her presence. Kids are kids to her. There is a good chance that the 14 year old that Goodes called out at the G had a different experience at home and school. I would think our new lad would have mixed with many races at school, but perhaps not aboriginals. However, the Adam Goodes issue was very divisive in the community and it would be very easy for a teenager to be swayed in his opinions and actions by people he put up on a pedestal, not necessarily his peers. The conversation at home could easily have gone as simple as this; "what do you reckon of Adam Goodes dad. I reckon he is a sook, overrated and a stager son." If his family happen to be Hawthorn supporters and went along with the dribble many of them espoused, then of course he will tag along.

Where he went wrong is that as an aspiring draftee it would have been better to not fall into the social media trap. He has to wear that now and hopefully it inspires him to rise to a level that puts him in the picture for a senior game in 2017. Unfortunately what he probably saw as innocent banter with mates has put a whole of pressure on him. One thing it will do is see what character he is made of.
