BTY, I think if an academy players doesn't get drafted in the ND, then he can automatically be prelisted by us as a rookie and taken at the end of the rookie draft.
I would prefer to see Sinclair go than to lose Nankervis, given Nanks still is very young for a ruckmen and should only improve even more from here.

Melican showed some signs of progress late in the season, I wouldn't be surprised to see us keep him on for another season and see if it was just a 'flash in the pan', or whether it was the beginning of an upwards trajectory.

I just have a feeling one of Ben and Tom will go, if for cash space more than anything else. Ridiculously we now have a glut of quality ruckmen so I expect us to lose one and would prefer Nanka to stay and reckon he'd be cheaper too. Towers the only trade bait on our list, if we get no offers I reckon we'd keep him on the list as depth but he will attract interest, and probably only worth a pick upgrade and we probably want to engineer a trade.

Six out seems the most likely scenario on the senior list - TomD, Tom/Ben, Ted, Jack, Towers, Sinclair/Nanka

I'm sure I read somewhere that Saturday will be Ben McGlynn's last game. Here you go No Cookies | Daily Telegraph

I just have a feeling if Tom leaves that he'll be offered an extra year (probably at reduced terms) to provide some inside grunt cover. If we win the flag he may well make the decision to retire but understandably not many players choose to end their own careers.

It would be really good for the game in Sydney of players like McGlynn could hang around and Captain-Coach in the SFL for a couple of years. You'd think if the Swans and the NSWAFL put together a dollar-for-dollar matching programme that this would work (not sure if the Swans co-payment would attract the attention of the cap auditors though). Add in some development work and put a $50,000 - 60,000 deal together for a couple of years that allows the players to complete any studies or qualifications to start the next chapter of the working careers....

Not really sure if it's the Swans job to fund the SFL, though it's hard to argue a stronger SFL is not good for the Swans.
SFL clubs are mostly run on the smell of an oily rag, and just a little bit more money from the AFL would make the world
of difference to them. MP's suggestion of trying to keep guys who are no longer on our list to stay in Sydney and be
involved with a Sydney club is a good one.

I'm hopeful that as ex-Academy kids who don't make the grade continue with their footy, the SFL will become stronger as a consequence. It will be another 5 years until the effects are seen though I would imagine.

Brisbane looking at Towers and Richmond are looking at Nankervis.

What happens if Mitchell wins Norm Smith or is one of the best on ground? Do we still trade him and ask for a top 10 pick. His asking rate will also go up if he wins

Both of those trades would make sense for both the destination club and for the players and I like the fact they are going to weak clubs. And I think we could argue that both are required players but we would expect greater compensation for Nankervis. A pick in the 30s would not be unreasonable for Toby IMO given the work we have put into him and taking into account his draft position. And I'd like us to use that pick to select the best available ruckman in the draft at that stage. The Tigers will need to engineer some picks having traded their second rounder for Yarran (surely their list manager from last year should be standing in the Centrelink queue).

As for Deano I think we'd do everything within reason to make a trade happen so we may be looking for a pick upgrade, I'd take a swap of our second rounders (28 for 36) if we could get that.

As for Tom, I think the die is set to be honest. I suspect he has a concrete offer from the Hawks which we have one final chance to match. The best thing of course will be for Tom to get in a bidding war between the Blues and Hawks but then again the environment these days is for players to get their choice of club provided the compensation is adequate (given the whole draft and trade system is technically illegal). He's definitely worth the equivalent of a top 10 pick so it's up to the Hawks to provide that - Pick 1 in 2017 goes a long way but we'd want some change. Depending on what the Hawks get for Hill and their other deals perhaps we could a further improvement on the picks we engineer from the Towers and Nankervis trades.

I am still hoping we can keep Mitchell because right now he is an integral part of our successful midfield. Irreplaceable even? Yes we have Heeney, Mills and Jones but they all have different strengths which complement his. I think Tom is one of a kind and that we have not seen the best of him yet. However only the planners for the future know how important he is to the team going forward and will make the call accordingly. It just seems a shame that a young player who is now on the edge of becoming a gun midfielder, who loves being in Sydney and as part of the Swans, is let go.

I actually think this is not enough for Towers. We should get an upgrade to their pick 20, which nets out at 410 points or a pick 41. That seems fair to me.

Tom Mitchell is showing that he's worth a top 5 pick with the way he's been playing. If he goes to Hawthorn, it should be something like their 2nd round pick this year and 1st round pick next year.

If we can't get a top 10 pick this year, I would prefer getting picks next year. After the top half dozen players I think the field evens out a lot. I wouldn't mind having 3 picks between 18 and the low 30s.

It will be very interesting to see how aggressively we trade given yesterdays result.

I fully expect seven out now for varying reasons (Ted, Jack, TomD, TomM, Ben, Towers and Nanka).

How we cover them will be telling and largely guided by how Horse et all view the current list. We could upgrade three rookies and take four in the draft. The Towers deal could well see us get an upgrade of our second rounder to 19 or 21 with Brisbane and you'd think we'd be able to draft a quality young ruckman with whatever we get for Nanka (which should be in the low 30s).

What we do re the final position on the list will be interesting

Why do people talk about drafting a ruckman to replace Nankers? Is Galloway that bad? If he is that bad, why isn't amongst people's delistings?

And if Nankers is going, isn't that more reason to keep TomD - so we have two rucks in the NEAFL so the younger players can learn our game plan?

It is true that TomD taught Sinclair about calling for the stretcher.

And it is also true that he gave the name of his hairdresser to McVeigh. And to Rhyce Shaw, Josh Francou, Henry Playfair and Tom Harley as well.
And that Kirky puts his hands over his ears every time Tom opens his mouth.

Tom has only been told about Plan D of our game plan. I think that's the one where we forfeit the game due to hail. We were afraid that if we told him Plans A, B and C that he would leak it to Megan Fox. Horse thinks that Megan Fox is related to Lindsay Fox and that Lindsay would tell our game plan to Eddie McGuire, who might tell it to Mick Malthouse and then everyone at the mental institution would know about it.

Anyway, all Tom's football knowledge, accumulated by 15 games of senior experience, barbecued when he spent too much time with his head in the blow dryer.

And it's a sad story about Kyle Galloway. He was considered a football prodigy when he came to the club, but fell under the influence of Tom Derickx and Michael Talia. We are not talking about Galloway being delisted because, well, you see, uhh, he's going to be decommissioned.

Kurt Tippett joined the swans in 2013 from memory

My understanding from reading every article under the sun was he was a $2.4 mill 4 year buy ie an average of $600k pa

Ie we paid $800k pa first two years to keep any other clubs at bay

Then we paid $400k pa last two seasons

IF this was how it panned out I think Kurt would be on $400 to $500k pa for 2017 onwards

Nanko will be offered $400k pa by other clubs

I think Kurt offers more in goal scoring felixibilty and the interchange with Naismith

But I like nanko more then Sinclair on the scg

I just found Galloway's stats for the NEAFL GF. The 2 is for hitouts. Had a big game.

                                screenshot-www.redandwhiteonline.com 2016-10-03 04-46-05.png

I'm happy to trade out either Sinclair or Nanka and go into next season with 3 ruckmen plus one that we draft to the rookie list. Reid and Aliir can both fill in if necessary. The Power did okay with Jackson Trengove in the ruck. I think a mobile athletic ruckman that's not a giant works okay.

I would trade Nanka for Richmond's 2017 second rounder Sinclair back to WCE for their pick 30 this year. .
