After the pain of Saturday I suppose we'll all be focussing on the trade period.

I'll say it again, I can't see how Hawthorn can possibly engineer a trade for Tom Mitchell if he is a required player at the Swans and after his finals series I'm sure he is. O'Meara is the Hawks first piece of business and Gold Coast have said two first rounders or player equivilents. Given they only have pick 14 and at best pick 21 from Freo for Brad Hill, they can't even get O'Meara done let alone Mitchell as well. Given $ is the sticking point with Tom's contract, we won't be taking a Hawks player as that's $ we don't have so it's only picks we'll accept, picks the Hawks don't have. I think Tom stays or it's a Carlton/Richmond for pick 5/6.

Of our fringe players Nankervis will definitely get interest and probably Towers and both of these have currency in the 30s or a substantial pick upgrade of our pick 35 into the low 20s or our pick 53 into the 30s.

As always, but even more so this year, an interesting 18 daze until 2pm on 20th October. The new week will bring a flurry of probable trades in the media but only 30% will get done, fantasy football at it's best!

Don't forget they can also trade future picks.

Yes, but being Hawthorn that's only likely to be around current picks which aren't real pointy end ones.

Mitchell is worth around pick 5/6 as a minimum so picks around 14 don't cut it. I'm fairly sure the rules are either your future first or your future second & third & etc.

Even with next years first I can't see how the Hawks can get O'Meara and Mitchell, don't forget O'Meara is their first priority and IF they land O'Meara, the cupboard will be bare and we aren't taking players from them because our cap won't allow it.

And that Kirky puts his hands over his ears every time Tom opens his mouth.

Tom has only been told about Plan D of our game plan. I think that's the one where we forfeit the game due to hail. We were afraid that if we told him Plans A, B and C that he would leak it to Megan Fox. Horse thinks that Megan Fox is related to Lindsay Fox and that Lindsay would tell our game plan to Eddie McGuire, who might tell it to Mick Malthouse and then everyone at the mental institution would know about it.

Anyway, all Tom's football knowledge, accumulated by 15 games of senior experience, barbecued when he spent too much time with his head in the blow dryer.

And it's a sad story about Kyle Galloway. He was considered a football prodigy when he came to the club, but fell under the influence of Tom Derickx and Michael Talia. We are not talking about Galloway being delisted because, well, you see, uhh, he's going to be decommissioned.

If money is the only factor influencing our trading out of Mitchell I suggest that Macca follows in the footsteps of Hodge and S. Mitchell (reportedly) and take the necessary cut in pay to allow it to happen. However, I suspect Macca has another year on his current contract to run - darn.

It's quite annoying to think about but a major problem on Saturday was our lack of another dangerous forward.
Someone who could lead up at the ball
We actually had this player but he plays for the saints now
              Membrey would've been super handy

I'd be trying to find another similar type player for 2017
Xav isn't going to be it

Forget Membrey - Downhill skier in a downhill skiing team. List clogger with us.

Young player that is coming good with experience
kicked 50 odd goals this year.
I'm not blaming the Swans i'm not sure whether we could have kept him.
Just pointing out that we need that type of player

Lin Jong could add some speed for us.
Wonder whether we'll make a play for him.

A 'list clogger' who was fourth on the Saints 2016 Brownlow list with 9 votes, behind only Riewoldt, Stevens and Ross, and with 44 goals for the season to be the clubs leading goalkicker......and he kicks straight! He was a 'list clogger' worth keeping and would have been handy, yes. As for your 'downhill' assessment of the Saints, you'll actually see them in the finals next year. Biggs was another I didn't want sent packing, and look where he sits now, playing good footy and a premiership medal around his neck.

Yes, and right from under Collingwood's nose!! He would add speed and I'd love us to be the one's who caused Eddie's head to finally explode! Hell, we've tried hard for some time now!!

Can everyone remember this, straight from the AFL website, it formally answers that perennial question that is posed whenever there is chat about not taking three picks at the ND.

"Rookie list promotions are included among the compulsory minimum of three selections that each club must have at the draft, but the names of these players will not be formally read out at the draft."

So the three compulsory picks can be all picks/all promotions/mix of these

You may be on your own with that thought as I amongst many many others here were disappointed he went.

Biggs was another I was sad to see leave for more opportunity but HBF are easier to unearth.

As for Membrey and we can add Biggs to the list as well, we should learn that it doesn't pay to keep champion players on our list an extra year or two, even if they do make a contribution. Both Goodes and Shaw played well in their final years, but we lost Membrey and Biggs as a consequence.

Well that's in the past. We need to make sure the don't make the same mistake with McVeigh. I don't know if he will be in our best 22 next year, but I would tend to play his final year in the reserves. He should also relinquish his captaincy.

There are some calls for Tippett to be traded. He's under contract, but I think if a good offer was made and he was agreeable to being traded, it should be considered.

There will be a lot of talk about our lack of depth (ostensibly because of how much we've been paying Buddy and Tippo), but most journos don't know how good some of reserves players are. They never knew about guys like Naismith, Aliir and Hewett. We've got another half dozen that are on track for AFL careers. Rose had an excellent Neafl GF and looks ready for senior footy. Newman and Foote are also ready to go next year.

The big question for us is whether we can have at least 2 out of 3 fit players from Reid, Talia and AJ. If we can, I think we will go into 2017 with a very strong side.

Brisbane were said to be interested in Towers. I wonder if they would have interest in BJ as well. I would send them both to Brisbane and our pick 35 for their pick 20. I can't see either making it with us.

But here's the thing.... say Membery and Biggs were still on our list, would they be in our best 22?
If so, who would go out?
Just because you are good for St Kilda, it doesn't mean you are good for the Swans. It means you
are good for St Kilda. Laidler, no good for Carlton, but good for Sydney.
