The logic of trading up to pick 9 as well as the consensus of draft experts are pointing to taking Logue with our fist pick. If that's the case, I would think we would prefer taking a speedy outside mid-forward with our second pick. Most of the better players available at pick 19 will be of this type anyway. The 2 best forwards in the draft are Marshall and Battle (both having military sounding names in common). It's hard to know where they will fall, except I would think PA would take one of them, given the state of their list. The Bulldogs might be interested in Battle. He would compliment Boyd well and allow Stringer to spend more time in the midfield.

I like Josh Battle. He's a solid footballer with footy nous and skills. He also runs a 10 minute 3 km. If we think that Reid could be on the move after next season (FA), Battle could be a good pick up. It's 50-50 whether he'd be available at pick 19 as there are so few KPPs in this draft. It's looking to be the best draft since 2013, but very lopsided toward midfielders.

The consensus seems to think that Brisbane will go with Ben Ainsworth at pick 3 over Brodie. Ainsworth would be my choice too.

I reckon we're running a tight ship cap space wise so there's no way we'll go to a list of 39. Even at minimum wages of approx. $65K that's money that counts to the TPP which we can't use to re-sign Heeney and JPK. The more I look at our list I am glad Mitchell left because I just feel more confident we can keep the rest of the squad now

I don't agree about the tight cap space any more, not since we've had 8 players, including Mitchell, out the door when we had budgeted on a pay rise of some sort for Mitchell and had offered new contracts to Nankervis and X. Teddy Richards would have been earning good money too. Now, some of that money is already spoken for with Buddy and Tippett and of course we need to be ready to pay Heeney and Mills et. al. but even still we can't still be quite so tight with our salary cap with all the departures we've had and even though I can't see us paying someone like Barrett as little as $65K I still think we can afford him.

I think we probably could afford him now but it's just a case of priorities. I just think we have enough midfield depth with the likes of Mills, Jones, Hewett and Foote coming through. I'd prefer we use the money to re-sign our existing players rather than a bloke who is probably going to struggle to be in our best 22

I think he on trend to being a fairly serious player......I have only watched him twice but he is ahead of where Keiran jack was at the same age in talent

He has a very strong work ethic, good fakes and good long left kick and he ins in the inside ball - very much compliments the swans football style

In the right environment he is certainly a contender for a top 22 spot mid way next year if not earlier in the season

I just have a feeling on this one that we were aware of Jake leaving GWS as a likely scenario and we could be in the running to pick him up at way less then half the price of Tommy Mitchell and a player that has so much upside as an inside mid

incidentally no1 tackler in the NEAFL last year

I thought we could just sign them up without them going into the draft i.e. they are free players

I just cannot see us not using our four picks at the ND and I doubt we'll break our list of 38.

I do hope he gets another shot somewhere though, I doubt he'll last until the RD

I suspect that if we were planning to take a free agent, then we wouldn't have announced a full compliment of rookie upgrades. And it's probable that we will also value pick 49, as being worth more than a delisted free agent.
Though one thing that I just tried to check, but couldn't find anything on: if nobody offers Barrett a primary list contract, is it possible for us to offer him a place on our rookie list, prior to the draft?
Any ideas?

From the points the clubs have I would love to see Collingwood struggle to get the 2 father and sons picks Daicos & Brown. It would be poetic justice to have Eddie agonize like the way he made the Swans and their supporters suffer with his rantings and ravings about the academy etc.

I like it, GWS and Gold Coast's large points balances should be expected with both coming back to baseline next year though Gold Coast do have the luxury of four second rounders which will further help them, especially if Swallow decides to go home.

Hawthorn on a big fat zero spells trouble, especially as they won't have a lot more next year. Melbourne have taken a hit this year but they consciously traded forward last year where they took Oliver and Weideman and then traded Hibberd in this year.

St Kilda for mine were the winners in this trade period, two good players in, two forst round picks in 2017 and they still get two second rounders this year

I wish you were right but I haven't seen anyone rate either Brown or Daicos an earlier than late 30s so they should be able to get them.

On the bright side I think their trading and drafting strategy has been poor, drafting old men with a view more to Bucks keeping his job than priming them for a title tilt
