Cal Twomey has posted his 'late mail' phantom draft. I suspect it is more accurate and I am happier to think we will select Brodie rather than Simpkin. Still not convinced about Cox at 19 and still hoping Scrimshaw might slip through to us at 9.

i think we may still go for SPP for pick 19 if we think there is enough depth for a key defender later in the list

or as a few of us have suggested that the Swans are not worried about finding a solution via the draft for a Key position defender because they feel they have it covered internally or trade next year ?

a little like the hawks strategy of bringing a a couple key defenders when they needed them i.e. mature and strong

Have heard we are into Florent and have informed him we will select him if he's still available.

with our first pick Ugg or second ?

he is a bit of a malceski and kicks off both feet very well

interesting and outside player first pick and maybe SPP second pick ?

I'm warming to us drafting Brodie if that's how it turns out. I'm sure he'll be a very good player, maybe even a great player. I like his determination and work ethic. Our midfield would be downright Beastly with Brodie added to what we already have. And if we add SPP, as Auntie suggests, it will be super beastly. Maybe we could frighten other teams from taking the field. Brodie is not a line breaker, but he has good pace and SPP is quite quick.

I can see Brodie starting out at HB for us. He reads the play well and is a good contested mark

I'm also not too worried about getting a KPP at pick 19 just because we don't get Logue or Scrimshaw. We should just go for the best player.

probably snuck past my tunnel vision......and if true he is actually our first pick...... Florent does have a few very special qualities and if we believe we can pick up SPP or Venables etc with our second pick then that makes a lot of sense to me !

              very very very composed player

There was talk that non Victorian clubs might be reluctant to take him for compassionate reasons, given the recent death of his father, but given what you've said, he must be okay with going out of state. I think he would be a good choice at our 1st pick. He was great in the all star game. He wins the ball and is very quick and elusive. Has many similarities to Simpkin, but plays more in the midfield.

I had him in my probable final 3 that KB spoke about for our 1st pick.

There was a story today that Patrick Cripps has a back injury and looks likely to miss to the start of the season. Maybe they will have a rethink on Brodie.

I must admit that I'm confused by this love for Brodie. We already have too many inside mids as it is. We need outside run and acceleration and even more importantly excellent foot skills. I know the club has said they'll go for the best available but the first dozen players are very even. Choosing a player we don't need because he's 5% better than a player we need for team balance just doesn't make sense. The weekly best 22 are selected based on team balance so why would they ignore that principle?

He won't make it to 19 surely, so must be talking about 9. Perhaps they prefer him to Simpkin or Logue. I actually like the idea of Logue - tall, athletic, quick, good overhead, good endurance. Seems like he can kick.

Exciting, relatively concrete news. I presume you wouldn't have reported this if you didn't consider the source fairly credible. And therefore I treat it more earnestly than if somebody else said it. Very interesting.

I will have mixed feelings if that's who we draft. On the one hand I'm sure that means he'll be a good player and fit our needs. It also means we are making our own destiny a bit and not just leaving it to see who 'slips through'. On the other hand it leaves me thinking we traded down with pick 17 to 19 and gave pick 31 away for not much since there's a good chance that one of Simpkin/Hayward/Florent/Berry would have been available at pick 14. On the other hand, if we get someone like Scrimshaw, I'll be delighted we traded up and feel like it was really worthwhile.

I also hope we place bids on any and all of Setterfield, Bowes and Perryman if they haven't already been bid on.

I have accepted a dinner invite tomorrow night so won't even be able to follow developments live. At least not without being a pretty ungracious dinner guest.
