Having said that I think Longmire needs to stop mucking around with Gary and play him in one role. And for mine the role he looks consistently dangerous is as a leading forward. Forget any ambitions of him being a line breaking outside mid or winger and just use him in that role. Papley Reid Rohan on the FF line, Hayward, Buddy and Dawson of half forward
Agreed. Kind of inexplicable that a dangerous, fully-functional forward line comprising most of those players was broken up in the finals, particularly in order to bolster a deliberately small back line.

Gees if the great man lomgmire was looking for versatility there is a guy in the 2s who can play fwd back and even pinch hit ruck
could use him instead of wasting full-time fwds down back

easy to remember too the guy only has one name

If Rohan could get up and down the ground like Towers does and if Towers could play with the same intensity as Rohan, we would have a couple of very good players on our hands.

Rohan really needs to have a big pre-season and build up his aerobic capacity. If the interchanges get reduced again, he could be in trouble.

We may well see this silly ruckman nomination business come to a close and reinstate the 3rd man up. That could be a bonus for Towers.

I believe towards the end of the season, Towers was playing with more intensity than Rohan and was better than him in this area in the finals.....9 tackles in the semi against the Cats. He will be an important player for us next season with his added ruck prowess, making your last point a pertinent one.

I like the current rule and wouldn't like to see the 3rd man up back. However, they could improve the ruck nomination by having just 2 persons competing and if a third person comes in then penalize them by giving a free kick to the opposing team.

Rohan needs to be treated like Nick Smith a pocket player only

He has been around too long to try to change now
I did once wish he get a tank for the midfield but it's too far gone
He is a fwd 50 player only

That doesn't stop a ruckman being blocked from getting to a contest by the opposition.

I tend to agree.....it's a simple solution....so simple, the AFL didn't consider it, preferring the stupid nomination rule. What a bunch of 'focus group' idiots....

Simply penalise the blocker.....but the AFL love to make simple solutions complicated so this probably won't be considered.

There aren't any Fwd 50 players anymore. At least I can't think of any. Even the game's best goal kickers run up and down the ground. If he can't add more of a tank he's not going to progress from where he is now. He seems to have ended the season uninjured, so hopefully he can be put on a program where he can improve this aspect of his game.

No trade for Aliir, he is exactly the sort of spontaneous player we need. Whilst coaches tend to hate having players who go outside team rules I think a good team always needs one player that makes them unpredictable. I would give him a roaming role that would allow him to inject himself into the game. Let's not forget he would have been in our final team last year but for injury.

If a good deal for Gary came in then I would trade him. I think a change of venue and mindset might be good for his career.

Would love a trade for Tippett but I think we would end up paying so much of his contract we will just have to suck it up.

That's exactly the current rule. You can't block the opposition ruckman. But you have to know who the opposition ruckman is to know who you can't block, hence the need for the competing ruckmen to nominate.

True. I thought that after I posted..... It's a frustrating area of the game because we all want a game where frees come from actual physical contests and not from 'uncontested' technicalities.

Greetings from sunny Alexandria. Tippett is the only one I really want to get rid off. Rohan will have a better year next year after a full preseason.
