I have mixed feelings - mostly positive - about this rumour. On the one hand Steven May would be a great get - and shipping Tippett off could be even better. On the other hand, we have a lot of depth in the KPD position these days (Reg, Aliir, Talia, Maibaum, AJ, Melican). I guess Talia is playing reserves. Reg is close to retirement - 2018 might be his last year. AJ may well never make it back (but I'm definitely not giving up!!). Maibaum is unproven and would be a few years behind May. Aliir plays a different role - more intercepting, rebounding, rather than a lock down defender, good one-on-one. Melican might be unlucky - there is a lot of competition for the third and fourth defender spots - Rampe, AA, Marsh, even Newman? My point being that I feel sad to think all these guys who we have been developing and looking forward to seeing them come through, would have one less spot to fight for and so we will likely lose at least one. Still, overall I think we have to assemble the most potent team we can and May fits the bill. If someone else gets squeezed out then they can still have a great career somewhere else and they may provide some trade value for us.
More likely this is just baseless speculation. All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)Comment

On the AFL website, Tom Harley is saying that we've been having fruitful discussions with Reid, Jones and their respective management. It sounded like he was quite optimistic on keeping them both. Also said that he wasn't all that impressed, by the rumours that we were keen to trade out Tippett.Comment

Retaining Jones has to be our priority. He has leg speed, foot skills and guts. That's exactly what we need.
We've got one of the youngest lists going around. We've got some amazing young talent, and depth, on our list. Combine that with two high first round draft picks and our future is looking very bright (other than underperforming this year and maybe the next).
Just imagine how bright our future would be if we picked up Fogarty and key forward (ie Hayes, Balta or Coleman-Jones) in the next draft?Last edited by S.S. Bleeder; 3 June 2017, 09:54 PM.Comment

Nice. I agree. If he takes that then we should let him go. Even the corrupt VFL can't deny us a first round pick based on those figures and assuming it's a reasonable contract length.

Unlike Jones, who I'd be hoping we hear something about next week, I think Sammy's deal will go right down to the wire, especially if we need a Tippett trade to get the cap space.
But I agree that getting two good early first rounders could soften the blow.
IF we were to lose both Tippett and Reid then I could see us potentially being in the mix for May, we certainly would have the cap space and a top 5 pick would probably get that deal done.

How many more can we blood? Giving Melican, Florent, Hayward and Newman as many as possible as well as Aliir I guess. Maubain I'd like to be given a block at the end of the season as I would like to see Cameron and COR given a taste of senior footyComment

This time last year Harley was saying publicly that we were confident of keeping Mitchell and we know how that turned out! I'm hopeful but not confident of keeping both Jones and Reid. We would miss both a lot if they left.

i wouldnt be surprised if we let go both tippo and reid and not fussed if we do, both too inconsisent to demand high money...reported last week on sen richmond keen on one or both...and swans happy to pay some of tippos salary of around 250k next year
is there a dusty rumour floating around..tippo , reid to tigers dusty to swans....he is prob that outside power mid we need....
may would be a handy inclusion.
as if harley would come out and say "yeah sure we are happy to send reid ans tippet wherever"...whatelse do you think he can say...
i would be happy now to play kids, manage our seniors after 4-5 years of hard grinding in finals '13,'15 with big injury lists...Comment

I reckon we'll offer much less than Melb clubs but a fair amount and leave it up to Reid to decide if he wants to stay or chase bigger money in Melbourne.Comment

I would love to keep Reid, however if we have a top 10 draft pick in this years draft (quite likely at this stage) and we get a first round compo pick that will give us 2 top 10 (or 11) picks! I wonder if our ladder position will play a part in how willing we are to let him leave. I suspect it depends where we see our list as being. If we truly are "rebuilding" then we are better off letting him goComment
