They are just playing to their main audience. Keep filling space with homesick players returning to Richmond/Carlton/Collingwood/Hawthorn and the masses love it.

Was thrilled Schache made them all look stupid yesterday, Melbourne media had him gone.

As expected, Schache off the market and Sam playing a blinder last night has stoked the "Reid to?????? for $800k/year"

Not sure I understand why that is sad. Means we are winning. As a supporter I thought you would be happy about that

Roos said it best last night when he put it into perspective and said Reid is a 3rd Fwd option
"he isn't going to kick you 50-60goals a year"

If someone wants to pay $800K for that then let them do it

        Melb media is #fakenews
How could the pies are linked to everyone ?? Pendles 1Mil +, Sidebum +++ plus the guys they paid overs for to get to the club (except treloar) Treloar 700+, Mayne 500+, Adams ++, Wells 600+, greenwood ++, Hoskin Ell +

Reids best goal kicking year he kicked 31 that was in 2012 since then 7, 17, 16, 0 and 17 this year he will finish with less than 40. Struggle to see how a player who average a goal a game be worth 800k. Ben Brown from North has kicked more goals from 66 games 119 goals Reid hass 111 goals from 109. Also Luke Parker 109 goals from 138 games.

Not sure why you base everything on goals kicked. He played as a key defender for the most part of 2015 (as quoted in the Swans bio.) He has also spent time swinging between forward & back for large parts of this season and already has 17 goals from 12 games. He is not our only forward.

2015 he only played 10 games and maybe 5 of them in defence. Also he only swinging into defence for maybe two minute at end of quarters as a loose man. He's a forward they're suppose to kick goals thats why they get paid more than any other position how else would you judge it? He is currently equal 26th in the coleman race behind some players who might surprise. My point was his production is not worth his price tag. 800k for a KPF currently in his eight season yet to have a 40 goal season. Tom Papley kicked 29 goals last year in his rookie season.

Clear $400,000 - $500,000 of our cap space and give Cameron some game time.

The interesting question will be if anyone wants him. I would think someone would be tempted by him at $400,000 per year with a performance based option for 2019.
But if you were Richmond, or any other club, in all honesty how would you approach it?

You'd only do it if Sydney was paying the huge majority of the contract (ie. all but $100-200K), which would only happen if we were absolutely desperate to free up that small amount of cap space.

Or put it another way - if he were out-of-contract at the end of this year, would you be happy to offer him a new $500K contract?

I can't see anyone really going after him thinking he will add a lot to their side, so it would be more like a Travis Cloke scenario - offer him a spot on the list if it wasn't going to cost much at all. I can't see that helping us really - by the time we get to trade week, Jones and Reid will have decided their futures (one way or the other), so we wouldn't be down to our last $200K that would help us.

Jon Ralph on Jones & Reid "I am certain Zak Jones will stay. Doing a deal now. Sam Reid says he wants to stay and they are talking to him but he should hold off until he sees what the options are. "

Come on over Jacob, you won't have to move house :-)

Surely the salary cap must be getting full at GWS, Cameron is on a $mill, they've re-signed a squillion high draft picks, they have to get vaguely close to the truckload of cash being offered by Norf and others for Kelly. Interesting to see how GWS manage it all now they only have the same cap as everyone else.

I would approach it along the lines of "would you like Tippett on your list for $300,000 per season and we will cover the balance of his 2018 salary".

And for Tippett to take the bait I suspect they'd need to offer an option triggered by performance for 2019

It's a simple equation, either a club thinks he is worth it or they don't. Provided he plays some decent footy between now and the end of the season I suspect someone would be tempted.

Quite similar to the Cloke situation, the Doggies needed some cover, he provided it. Cloke was a gamble the Doggies couyld afford to take and personally I see Tippett as a better bet then him.

Time will tell but I'm not so sure re your assessment of the Jones/Reid situation. Jones I think we will want to wrap up asap and I think if he hasn't signed by the end of this month he is as good as gone although I fully expect him to stay.

With Reid I think the club and Sam will be more prepared to play the waiting game as him being a RFA offers some certainty in the process. I think we'll need a $600,000 per year offer minimum if he is getting $800,000 per year offers elsewhere and it is possible that we won't be prepared to offer that unless we can get $300,000+ of Tippo's salary off the cap - I know we can backend contracts but it really does build a rod for your own back. And it is also possible Sammy may take the cash and we are prepared to let him go in return for a compo pick next year that is still looking like a top 10 pick. I'd like Sam to stay but a top 10 draft pick would soften the blow

Reality will bite for GWS soon enough so they really do need to win a flag this year for the business plan to stay on track.

What Kelly does will be telling. I believe GWS are offering $650,000 per year for two years which would seem unders but it reflects that they have some big earners there. Does he stay for premiership glory and then chase the cash in two years? If GWS win this year does that make him more or less likely to stay. They're calling him for $12m over 9 years which really does seem a lot for a midfielder, ultimately it will be hard to knock back that sort of money.

Ultimately it will impact on other players so if Reid were to leave, Hopper to the Swans may not be so silly

I think the GWS list is pretty settled now but as their players start becoming RFAs it will increase the pressure. Sure they will get compo but will be picks in the late teems not 3-4 as before.

He is a grade A knob but "Ralphy" is usually pretty close to the mark with his mail.

If I were Zak I'd be signing a four year deal and testing the water in four years as a RFA, for now he is the right place football-wise

I definitely agree we're at the point where we would at least test the waters at the end of the year - in reality there is probably truth in the rumour we were looking at it last October.

But it just seems a long long-shot that anyone would pay enough of the 2018 salary for it to be worth it for us (even at $300K, which would be OK for other clubs, we are paying someone $500K+ not to play with us. In that case we are probably better off keeping him as a $300K experienced backup ruckman.

And then, as you say, the other club would have to offer a realistic, attractive option for 2019 to get Tippett to agree - which clubs would use against us (ie. "if we have to give an option for 2019, we'll only pay $150K of the $2018 contract".

With Reid, I think we'll have a figure in mind that we'll offer soon - and that won't change significantly regardless of other rival offers. We don't seem to have protracted negotiations with players we want to keep - our first offer is fair and only the minor details get ironed out. So if Reid, like Mitchell, has someone else offer well above our valuation, we let him go.

That's why I think we'll know (ie. the club) well before trade week how that's looking. Although I wouldn't be surprised at all if he re-signs fairly soon - but agree Jones looks certain to be settled ASAP.

Last night he worked harder than I have ever seen him on forward, defensive pressure. Chased hard in the forward line all night. That was his best game of his career for mine. He just needs consistency as Roos said; "I would like to see him string together another 12 games".
