I think the reaction to Tippett's axing has been remarkably muted on here which reflects really that his dropping was totally warranted. Perhaps that will be a tonic to some of the idiots on here saying Longmire won't drop experienced players and that he plays favourites.

Think about it, he is now regarded as our third best ruckman on the list based on form. Horse has clearly had enough of him and many of us on here have also now recognising he is an obscenely overpaid luxury. It really must be a massive kick in the guts to Tippett and you help but wonder if they are starting to prepare him for the fact that he is not "a required player"

I believe we will do everything we can to get him off our list at the end of the year within reason. If we have accepted we won't win the flag in 2018, which I think is a fair assumption, then there is absolutely no reason to keep him on the list. Clear $400,000 - $500,000 of our cap space and give Cameron some game time.

The interesting question will be if anyone wants him. I would think someone would be tempted by him at $400,000 per year with a performance based option for 2019. Especially when they get him for nothing and may even get a draft pick their way thrown in. The Tigers have been mentioned and I think he'd go well there. And for Tippo, he still gets his $900,000 for next year and a chance to extend his career.

If we decide that we need major surgery on the list at year end, and I suspect we do, then I think the club will do everything it can to make this deal happen. Whether they can find a counterparty to the deal remains to be seen.

With or without Tippett, I still rate Sydney as a premiership contender next year (assuming a good run with injuries).

Like your optimism, wish I shared it.

I just feel GWS will confirm all our fears re a lopsided comp for the next few years. I know it has to happen for them to get a foothold so I'm not having a pop, just stating a fact.

The improvement of that squad so far this year is amazing and they have more upside than any other side IMO. Kelly's decision will be interesting, I expect him to stay for a couple of years to get the flag success and then fill his boots in 2020

Longmire still plays favorites. In. Jack. What about Talia or Allir?

Tippett dropping sounds a bit like media driven selection which is even worse.

I've been holding off on this for a while to see how the year pans out, so now I have decided to add to the commentary.

Time to ride off into the sunset:

Grundy - slower than treacle in a blizzard - already have replacement(s) Melican/ Maibaum
McVeigh - has got the old man injury - calf which don't heal fully. Rampe can take the general's role in defence
K Jack - back issues which continue to reoccur - Papley is his replacement

                  Delist:

B Jack - never going to make it.

                  Trade if interest:
J Rose - missed his opportunity to grab and hold a place.
G Rohan - continues to frustrate - doesn't deliver when needed ( needs at least 40% increase in output) - we have Florent/Hayward and Edwards in place.

                  Under review:
D Towers - needs to lift in key area of defensive pressure
G Hewett - has to get his consistency back and develop skills on non preferred side
K Tippett - Is it possible that he has too many knocks to the head which are affecting him?
A Johnson - It hurts me to say it, he really needs to get back on the park soon and get back into the seniors for at least 4 games by season's end.
If he can't manage that, he should be offered a role on he coaching panel. I don't want him to be lost from the club and he seems to have a good football brain from what I've heard in interviews.

That means 4 definite draft/ trade selections and a further two possible draft picks.

A Johnson has to break into the seniors side this year, or he's gone. We cant wait forever.
                    D. Towers was gone last year, and his "improvement" this year is that he looks ok in a 13th ranked side. Gone.
                    G. Rohan. I put him in the same camp as Jesse White. Will go, and wont be much good at his destination.
                    Both Jacks. Gone.
McVeigh. Stayed 2 years too long.

What?!? Are you serious?? He is one of the best kicks off his non-preferred in the club!

                        Happy to be corrected..

But he really needs to get his consistency back and assert himself on the game, hope it's second year blues. May have mixed him with Lloyd I think who tends to turn to his preferred side all the time.

BTW - did you ever live in Burwood?

Yes, Lloyd is very one-sided. Having said that, it is hard to gauge the efforts of a kid (Hewett) in his first year as a mid. I think he will be very handy without being a star.
Um... Nope not Burwood but you can keep guessing if you like

Hewett good skills both sides from what I've seen and has a football brain.

Media pumping Reid up now that Schache is off the market. Honestly the media works for the recruiting department of Melbourne clubs.
