If Reid was offered that I'd be happy to let him go because we should get a 1st round pick in return. On the other hand we need to fight tooth and nail to keep Jones but as time goes on I'm becoming less confident than I was.

All just media noise, happens every year. Expect positive news on these two when the new EBA is finally signed off. Can't see sensible $ being an issue for Reid & Jones and if you're Reid, would you want to take your often scrutinised game to the Pies where they will eat you alive after a poor performance or two, particularly if you've lobbed on big $. Media noise.

Look as the frothing frenzied talk about Dustin Martin, at the end of the season he will quietly re-sign with Richmond for $1mill+ and a squillion words and stories will have been printed all year for nothing, except it gave print and electronic media something to talk about. Every TV show has a going/staying segment every week with journo's & past players who know no more than we do pontificating about player movements. They'd be better off with their heads in toilet bowls looking at those player movements for all the accuracy or value in their comments!

      Ditto Fyfe, media noise.

In this club I trust, can't think of too many REQUIRED players we've lost.

Ludwig? I can't believe you haven't jumped on this one.

Normally I would have, but people don't realise that I get detained sometimes with important business to take care of.

Saw the interview with edwards today
He is a little cornered with the rookie restrictions now for the swans

Great position for the swans ie if we want to keep Edwards's he signs on cheap for next year

Not so good for Shaun who may genuinely struggle to show his stuff in snrs 2017

There is talk that the rookie list may be abolished next year and list sizes to increase with current rookies immediately put onto the senior list so Edwards could be on the senior list. Talk is later draft picks would only have one year contracts when drafted.

I get the feeling Edwards is going OK to date so hopefully he can get a break. Thing is we are probably his last chance of an AFL career so he really just needs to knuckle down. You'd think they'll increase the list sizes by 5 or six so at a bare minimum I'd say we'll have a list of 43 next year as opposed to our senior list now of 38.

Allowing for Jarred retiring and Talia, Tyrone and BJ being delisted that means we need to add 9 onto the list. Melican and COR should be certs to be upgraded and Fox seems to have taken his chances well too. Tend to think it may well be touch and go for Edwards

I've heard 47 or 46 with a minimum of 44. Most recently on AFL tonight.

I always get very very nervous when I start reading articles like these

                    No Cookies | Herald Sun

I know a lot of us here will just say it is fake news and tabloid rubbish but when I start hearing murmurs about Reid being asked to take a pay cut I just wonder how we can afford both players and suspect we'll have to choose which one.

And for me that is a really tough call but I'll go for Jones because with I see Jones as locking in our midfield of Hanners, Heeney, Parker, Mills and Jones for the next 5-6 years. Reid has been very very good but I feel that we'll only have to cope without a player of his ilk for a year because in 2019 we'll (hopefully) have a combo of Blakey coming through and also the cash freed up by Tippett to actively seek a free agent.

Some utter rubbish though that the Tigers may be after Reid AND Schache - well if they can find $700,000 a year each for those two plus the million they'll need for Dusty I'd be very surprised.

I understand Reid is on 500K a year. Can't image he'd take a cut from that.

I heard that as well. I was told after pick 80 the contracts are 1 year

All the rookies are doing something to state their claim for another year on the list - with the exception of the unsighted Ronke, but maybe his commitment to rehab has been exemplary.

Fisher, Edwards, Fox, Pink, Murray, O'Riordan - all have been very good contributors to the NEAFL side. And of course Melican is strutting his stuff on the big stage.

I was dubious about Murray coming into this year but his improvement has been significant. The coaches have taught him to play disciplined footy within their structures without completely eliminating his desire to take the game on. I reckon he's at least as good as where Biggs was at a similar stage of his career.

Pink is such a hard one to call, given he's going to take a while. But he works really hard, looks athletically good, and has probably done everything that could reasonably have been expected of him at this stage.

I imagine list management decisions at the end of the year are going to be somewhat challenging, yet again. And the combination of whatever attributes Beatson and his team are looking for in their late picks / rookies, and the good development coaching, the clubs looks to be continuing its trend of finding competent AFL players (or at least those showing AFL potential) at the late stages of the drafts.

It's the Herald Sun so I wouldn't take it that serious. No way would the club ask him to take a pay cut when the TPP is rising so much. If by a pay cut they mean a low ball offer like Mitchell with the idea that their not fussed if he leaves I'd be more inclined to believe it, maybe that's what they'll write next week. I stopped reading their toilet paper material a long time ago.

We do have a recent example where they paid a young player overs and a long contract and then left the minute the contract ended or was offered a lowballed contract and made the decision easy. MITCHELL and maybe now REID
