I am assuming Leonardis, Tahlia and BJ are also looking vulnerable for delisting/trade at the end of the season?
You would think those three are near certainties for delisting, Melican upgraded of course leaves two ND picks because we'll almost certainly continue with a main list of 38 to ease cap pressure.

Isn't there talk about the main/rookie list distinction being scrapped?

Not sure how that will affect us but as it stands I see those three delists with a Melican upgrade and only two draft picks as a possibility. It would be rare to not see any rookie delistings as to only have two new member on our combined lists would be very unusual. Wonder what we'll do with COR, can we keep him on the rookie list for a third year?

I still think McVeigh is a good chance to retire or move on to a Mitchell type deal which could be good for him. We usually do like to take three picks in the main draft

I actually think they'll be 3 picks with the delisting/retirement/trade of 4 players in McVeigh, Talia, BJ & Leonardis. Giving us the following picks 13, 30 & 48 going by our current ladder position. Cor can be retained but if the rules as they are stay the same then only 3 can be retained

        Rookie list - Wikipedia

so 4 of these rookies will be delisted.

Shaun Edwards (Cat A Rookie - 1st Year)
Robbie Fox (Cat A Rookie - 1st Year)
Sam Fisher (Cat B Rookie - 1st Year)
Sam Murray (Cat B Rookie - 2nd Year)
        Colin O'Riordan (Cat B Rookie - International)
Toby Pink (Cat A Rookie - 1st Year)
Ben Ronke (Cat A Rookie - 1st Year)

That's also not taking into account that someone like Rose or Marsh might want a trade for more opportunities which wouldn't surprise me.

I think Cat B rookies are on different rules given that they are mostly from other sports or haven't been a registered player so need longer development?

Any changes to the rookie structure will in effect being late draft picks will get one year contracts same as current rookies but they will be able to play without needing an upgrade in place of an LTI player.

There will obviously need to be a minimum three changes rule applied to non one year contract players, your main list to maintain the forced turnover as it is now.

That said, the talked about rookie changes haven't been talked about for some time now so suspect no change this year given they weren't announced in the EBA.

Wouldn't complain too much. Judging by the Way Papley plays in his 2nd year and Hayward in his first year, I think we have recruited very well and the future of our forward line is looking good.

Pretty sure it's exactly like I posted in the link so I think 4 will have to go. Different rules to be rookie drafted as Cat b but come under the same rules once on the rookie list. It's why when you look at the contract status list on bf we talked about the other day you see only 3 players that were retained from last year in Melican, COR & Murray. Galloway was a cat b n lasted a year.

An article on next years draft

Blakey looks good but he's not the standout ATM that I think a lot of Sydney supporters think he is.

I understood that the change to the rookie list was that category A rookies would be available for selection without being upgraded. Was the proposal at one stage but may not have been agreed.

No that's exactly how it is. They are basically a senior listed player with a lower salary.

I am responding to comments of 707, Scottee and others in separate thread (future list and depth analysis) on related topic.

Scottee, I was especially pleased to see you speaking up for Pink. I entirely agree with your comments about him. Pink has a lot of good points and a lot of upside. It has to be remembered he is something like the 2nd youngest player at the club, still only 18 (even now - although his birthday is on Friday) and is playing a KPF role, the hardest role in the game, especially as a young player. Besides that we have no KPF depth on our list (if you count Cameron as a ruck) and it is the thing we most need and lack. So I hope and expect we'll keep him. But I trust our coaches and list managers much more than anyone here and so, if they did cut him, I would still back their judgment.

Overall I am a lot more bullish about our depth than you, 707. Such a bonus that we re-signed Dawson. He was one that might have gotten away given that he hasn't broken into the firsts yet and his contract was up.

I agree with Scottee too that Murray is currently the most promising of our rookie prospects, moreso than Fisher.

It's not looking good for Talia but I don't agree that he is a definite de-list or even that he is definitely behind AJ.

I don't understand the ongoing calls to 'cut' Kizza or for him to retire. He's not that old, he's still best 22, he offers leadership above just his playing ability but, and this is the critical point, he is still CONTRACTED. I think he may still have another 2 years to go and no doubt on a good wage. We can't 'cut' him and why on earth would he want to retire (unless he gets horifically injured or something)?

I tend to think the end of this season is a good time for Macca to be retired despite his value to the team right now. His soft tissue injuries suggest his time is up. I think the way I might handle it is offer him pretty modest money and warn him he isn't assured of playing seniors and leave the decision to him in the expectation that he might decide to call it a day. I had thought it unthinkable that he would play anywhere else but the talk of him taking on a Sam Mitchell type deal at Carlton does make some sense especially if he wants a career in coaching.

Still Reid hasn't signed. Looking more and more like he is gone (to me).

My theory is that the Swans make good announcements on Wednesdays (mid week, not much AFL stuff happening) to maximise media attention. Similarly better to spread out good announcements, not all at once. So Jones last Wednesday, Reid this Wednesday.

Hope I'm right, we will soon know!

How do you value Reid. On potential he's 700k. On record he's barely over 450k.
