I agree. I think he could be a great pick up. He?s a bit inconsistent and a little injury prone, but that should mean we wouldn?t have to give up a lot for him. His 60 metre pinpoint kicks could be a huge asset on the SCG. He?d be playing in a team where he?d be getting more ball, and could be deadly on a wing or a HBF. And we all know how good Sydney is at resurrecting careers. More interested in going to Melbourne though apparently.

It's very hard to live in a studio apartment in San Jose with a man who's learning to play violin. That's what she told the police when she handed them the empty revolver.

It's being reported that Jake Lever has agreed to a 4 year deal with Melbourne at 1 Million a year. He's a good player, but that's outrageous for a 21 yo, even given the increase in the salary cap. Melbourne have a lot of good young talent on their list and this will set a precedent that will be difficult to sustain when they are looking to re-sign Hogan, Gawn, Petracca, Oliver, Viney, etc.
I would be happy to stay out of this high priced meat market for a while and think we are in a good position to go with organic growth for now. Our recruiters have done well over the past 5 years, picking up around 4 quality players with every draft. That's a really good result for keeping the team in a sustained run at the top 4. We have a group of young regulars like Heeney, Mills, Jones, Hewett and Papley who still have plenty of upside in them and some excellent prospects that didn't make the cut in the last game of the season.
I'll back our recruiters to find a few good young players again this year.
PS: Trent McKenzie is a dumb footballer. It doesn't matter how far he can kick the ball, he simply makes far too many mistakes. We have many better options for HB at the club.Last edited by Ludwig; 3 October 2017, 07:09 PM.Comment

I do think we're lucky that all our key players are signed up, most for the next few seasons, and also that we don't have any gaping holes in our list that mean we have to go after established players to remain in contention. The draft plus organic growth from the core of quality younger players already established in the senior team should suffice in the short term. There are going to be lots of crazy deals thrown at players over the next season or two while clubs work out what to spend their bonus dollars on, and in the meantime chase a small pool of available, quality players.
PS Definitely agree with you re McKenzie. We already have many posters on here who complain about a tendency for the team to kick the ball long, rather than accurately. I am not sure their disposition would be improved by the recruitment of a player whose only apparent asset is his ability to kick the ball long.Comment

For the middle part of the season, the team did play with one ruckman - Naismith. Sinclair and Tippett both found themselves in the NEAFL side (when Tippett wasn't in the rehab room, that is). When Naismith got injured, both Sinclair and Tippett returned but I reckon that is because the coaches didn't think either could ruck on his own. Once Naismith returned late in the season, they very quickly reverted to the one ruckman structure. Sinclair stayed in the team but he was played as a forward, with barely any time in the ruck. Against the Saints and Bombers he showed he could be an effective forward but against stronger defences and with the midfield battling, he struggled. He did ruck a bit in the SF but only when the coaches were throwing players all over the ground (eg Mills into the middle, McVeigh forward, Rohan / Reid back) to see if they could do anything to spark the team to function better.Comment

I thought he had his best season to date and played a role. I think his efforts set the tone for the team during our winning streak. ...and yes he has an uncommon ability to stuff things up. Probs always will.He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment

I think Towers did great. He did what the coaches asked him to do, and did it well.
Sure, he had a few stuff ups... Hanners had 20 possessions in our last game with ONE effective disposal.
Explain yourself out of that one!!Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Towers ain't going nowhere. He is in the 22 best players at the club for mine. The fact that the coaches seem to agree with me only enbiggens my belief on this matter.Comment

Agree on Towers, that is why he kept his spot. But will he be the best for that role in 2018 or will he be in our best 22.Comment

They offered similar to Hanners as wellComment
