I agree with this wolftone....which makes your earlier idea that replacing Towers with Watts would make us faster (admittedly you added speedy Saad to the mix as well), somewhat perplexing. Towers is quicker than Watts and his career is on an upward trajectory at the moment. Do we really want to stall his progress yet again?
According to the Rookie rules we can keep them both on the rookie List for another year as they are only two year rookies. They can have three years. We need to upgrade Melican, Edwards has retired so we get two vacant Rookie spots already. toby will not be upgraded so he automatically takes one spot. Ronke, Murray, Fisher, Fox and O'Riordan are all vying to be upgraded. Murray and O'Riordan have the most chance due to being here the longest. Murray would be a really good upgrade but we would probably need to downgrade someone. AJ or Rose come to mind. Although we might just trade Harry out to Suns.
There's no particular reason to upgrade Cat A rookies now that they are eligible to play senior footy. So the elevation of rookies is more pertinent to the Cat B rookies. I have been impressed with Murray's progress these past 2 years, but feel he still needs to refine his game more before he's ready for senior footy. Although O'Riordan had an up and down year, he's 2 years older than Murray and has a more AFL ready game. I feel with an injury free pre-season he could be ready for some senior footy next year. We may want to open a Cat B spot for one of our Academy players. I can't see any of them getting a bid in the ND. The other Cat B rookie, Sam Fisher, looks the best of new rookies from last year's draft, but no harm in leaving him to develop another season in the reserves.Last edited by Ludwig; 6 October 2017, 06:35 PM.Comment

Ludwig The Predictor take note: after the Awards Night I doubt Sinkers will be going anywhere in the near future.

Further to the comments earlier in this thread about how Melbourne are dealing with "the Jack Watts situation", I read on afl.com.au today that Adelaide have told Jake Lever NOT to attend their best and fairest count. (The article doesn't comment on whether Cameron - who's still contracted but expressing a desire to leave, in contrast to the out-of-contract Lever - has also been uninvited.
It's not the first time that clubs have done this to players who've indicated they're leaving but I find it really pathetic and childish. The B&F dinner, for any club, is meant to be about celebrating the season just past. Even though Adelaide will be disappointed in how it ended, they had a pretty damn good season. They are a club that's picked themselves up from a terrible tragedy just a couple of years ago, put it behind them, and improved immensely. Lever's been an important part of all of this. Why wouldn't they want to part on good terms, and help Lever remember his time with Adelaide with fondness, not burn all the bridges as he leaves the building?
I struggle to think of any player who has left the Swans in recent times who's been treated like this, or even had a word of criticism from the club said in a public arena. Maybe, if you go back to the days of Grant and Rocca there might have been some frustration aired, but that was more about how hard it was for a non-Victorian club to retain out of state players rather than personal comments about the players themselves. And I remember seeing Rocca at the B&F the year he left the club. Sure, he skulked at the back of the room all night and left as soon as he reasonably could, but at least he was made welcome and showed up.Today's a draft of your epitaphComment

Just to summarise the Swans involvement in the trade period so far, the Swans are allegedly looking at Jack Watts, Rory Thompson and Anthony Miles. It sounds like Watts will probably move to Geelong or PA, but I haven't heard anything additional about the other two. Also been rumours of Tippett been moved along with GCS being the most obvious.
Anything I've missed which isn't just hot air or one of Barrett's ravings?Comment

Where is the Rory Thompson rumour? I?d be very surprised if we are bringing in a key defender.Comment

If you are bored and looking for something to do, look at a photo posted by Laidler on his Insta account today of a group of blokes on the back of a boat in a ?bucks do? for Nick Smith. Then put names to all the faces. Hint: there are a LOT of backmen (and others). Memories of past Swans list management!Comment
