Realistically if Freo beat Saints we'll be in the 8

Sydney are now 5th favourite to win the flag at Sportsbet 11.00. Best of all Hawthorn are 13th at 101.00

The opposition are getting worried about us ...
They have taken the first and the second quarter. We have packed the backline but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes, goals... goals from the flank. We cannot win. A shadow lurks on the park. We cannot win... they are coming.

I'll make it simpler ... if we keep winning, we're in for sure.

Now opening this thread to those who called for the season to be dismissed, to look to next year, and even those who started to 'target' early draft picks
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

Loving it and loving this club and group of players. Look like we can beat anyone when we come to play!

Hold you fire until we win the flag. Finishing 8th and getting bundled out is not what we are here for.

Can we hold this form for another 3 months.?

I am really happy we didn't tank the rest of the season after our poor start.

Even if ultimately don't make the finals. It is nice to see the satisfaction and camaraderie in the players after they have won a tough game.

I was worried it would be difficult to switch from deliberately losing to get draft picks to then try to win games the next season. Also it would have been harsh on Kennedy in his first year as captain to be involved in that.

I don't think you have to win a flag for the season to be worthwhile.

If we finish 8th and get knocked out first week of the finals. I would take that.

It means we did not give up and fought it out to the end, even though it seemed impossible. Rather than give up early and go through the motions for the rest of the games.

It would still be a credit to the culture of the club and the players involved. They could look back on the season with some satisfaction.

We played the kids. We're still playing them because they are good.

1993 - close season, won by the baby Bombers.

Could 2017 be a close season won by the Cygnets?

I would like us to play at least one final this year. But I think next year is looking more promising for us.

I want to play a final so that our younger players can get some experience.

I have been enjoying the season and have respect for our players who have not given up...

But I don't have very high hopes for it

If you were only happy with seasons where you won a flag you'd be pretty miserable...

There's a lot to be taken out of the season to date, just love the character we have shown in bouncing back. Due to our consistency we haven't been challenged to that extent (start of 2014 to a lesser extent) for a long time and it was good to see we had that resilience in the locker room. Plus the debuts of Melican, Newman Hayward and Olly and the extra games into Mills, Hewett and Naismith who are still under the 50 mark.

Having said that to miss the finals now after fighting so hard to get the season back would be considered failure by the club I am sure and by us. I am sure there will be no complacency going forward.

Re the finals I am convinced that new format with the bye weekend is a poor one for the top 4 teams. In fact I don't want to win week 1 and then go into a Prelim with one game in the previous 27 days. By that logic you're almost better off finishing in the bottom of the ladder and building.

I'd happily take 5th or 6th with a home final.

If we can produce the effort of the last four weeks we'll be OK in September but I actually think we've got a bit of upside in us too

Don't take our long run of success for granted. We are in a premiership window and must take every opportunity. A time will come when we are just glad to win the odd game but that is not now.

That is absolutely right. I would also say, don't wait for the window to be fully open! Plenty of teams have won a flag during a time when they were not supposed to be contending.

We certainly have the ability right now to beat any team on a given day (and so do a lot of other teams). Each win breeds belief, provided it is built on hard work, desperation and hunger. If we can have that mentality leading in the finals - watch out.

We are now by far the most in form team in the competition and we get to test ourselves against 3 of the top 4 in the coming weeks. Exciting times!

I don't think we have to win the flag for the season to be worthwhile - *everything* has to go right for a team to win the flag - but I do think we should be winning a final or two. I agree with the sentiment - there may come a time when as 0-6 start to the season is par for the course, but we are a much better side than that (as demonstrated by our past two months), and we shouldn't be satisfied with that.

In general, I feel very conflicted about the Swans success over the past 5 years. On the one hand, we've won a flag and played in three grand finals, which sounds hugely successful and there are lot of fans of other clubs out there who would be delighted to have that record. On the other hand, we have lost two grand finals that were very winnable, so it does feel a bit disappointing. (Particularly 2014 where we weren't even competitive). On the whole, I prefer to see the glass as half full because at least we are up there. Losing those grand finals would feel a lot worse if it weren't for 2005 and 2012.
