    I'll leave the fair, even-handed. common-sense posts for mid-week.
Call it what you like, but it's one thing to say stupid @@@@ (there's not a lot of time between the thought going to the mouth).

There's a lot more time between thinking the stupid thought, taking the time to type it and then pressing enter.

There's also being "a footy supporter", versus just ranting away with thinly veiled expletives and slagging off your own players.

Support however you like, but its attitudes like that which really annoyed me at the 2014 grand final ... except that I could almost excuse it because the feral supporters were in Hawks jumpers.

Heeney really did have one of those nights where his silky smooth footy just never got going. I thought Newman was okay overall, but not at his best. But neither were any of his teammates really either.

We know we are a good footy team and I have no doubt we will bounce back from tonight's loss - but god it means we are back on the tightrope after seemingly lifting ourselves just off it a bit over the last several weeks.

Perhaps you should look at the game and how many others missed tackles or didn't read the play and had players run off them as well.

Why bother? Would change a thing at this point of barry's & Macca's relationship

Longmire is a bit of slow learner. We were unlucky with losing Lloyd and Rohan, but why not shell out an extra plane fare and a hotel room to get Aliir in Melbourne. He surely with have helped us from getting destroyed in the contested marking.

We should have had Tippett in the side instead of Naismith. We had to play Sinclair because he had one good game and needed to prove that he couldn't repeat it. Ruckmen are a pretty useless lot unless they can clunk marks around the ground, like McEvoy, for instance.

We had so many better players in the reserves than the ones we took to Melbourne. Harry Marsh has been playing consistently well and we all know that Dawson has been on fire all season. Foote and Robbo. What a waste.

What a better side we would have had with Aliir, Tippett, Marsh and Dawson instead of Naismith, Robinson, Foote and Hayward.

We are constantly falling victim to mismatches in our defence despite playing well as unit. It really cost us tonight.
I think that says most of it Ludwig, except I thing we made the usual Longmire error of "half fit and "hopefully fit players compounded by the wrong choice of emergencies on a day when the NEAFL wasn't playing.

Just watched the last 2 minutes again on the AFL website. Newman's last kick was aimed at Parker who was semi-free, just hit it a little too hard and perfect for Gunston to mark it. It was worth the risk IMHO.

I agree Ugg - it looked on my first and only viewing to be the right risk to take - if it hits parker, he is within range to get the ball into the 50. There appeared on telly to be no other obvious options with so little time on the clock. Not helped by the time Paps wasted setting up for his last goal (somewhat understandable) or the time the hawks eeked off the clock after the HTB was given as well. But Newman did what I reckon most players would do in that circumstance given the options he had available.

Happy to see Mitchell's 30+ consecutive possession games end . Crappy to see Joey's 20+ consecutive possession streak end .

Good to hear Longmire having a prod at the AFL about the quality of the goal line cameras. There have been so many instances this season where poor quality cameras have meant there will never be conclusive evidence to make a decision different to that of the on field umpire.

The match report has the following injury concerns

                        Lloyd - hip tightness
                        Rohan - back spasms
                        Kennedy - left hamstring
                        Naismith - right knee
                        Sinclair - ankle

Of course, he could just have turned around and kicked it backwards to a spare defeinder...(not!)

The commentators rabbited on about the cost of the cameras allowing better quality footage.

                            1) how much was their TV right real worth?

                            2) Channel 7 have it for the tennis & Olympics

                            3) Mythbusters have high resolution high speed cameras (& I reckon their revenue probably is less than that of the AFL)

                            4) they only need the cameras running when the ball is in the forward line

At the end of the day, I just think the boys were tired. It was an interesting game in that the Swans were the better team the first 5-10 mins but then the Hawks owned them at the back half of each quarter. I think the Swans were spent and coming off a short week (although the Hawks were, as well). You can't play for your finals life every week without it catching up to you. Hopefully, they will mend quickly and next week it is Geelong who will have the short week!!

How about they ditch a couple of their squillion highly paid execs and get modern high speed cameras.

Given what's at stake in an industry that is spending half a billion a year or more, to use blurry image cameras is a joke. Our emergency list was also a joke, did Longmire mention that in his presser?
