Yep exactly - I saw it summed up perfectly on another board tonight. The comment was:

"It's like a bunch of millionaires in their 60s and 70s going out for lunch and finding out the place doesn't have a Seniors discount .... oh my God Larry ... we can't afford to eat here."

    Nailed it I reckon

To me its the same ridiculous old spin as the 'part time vs full time umpire' debate. Its no VFL in the 50s any more lads.

The run had to come to an end eventually. The challenge now is to scrape together another 2 wins to sneak in to the eight and be thankful for the bye week.

Although when will the AFL spend some of their billions to get decent quality cameras for the score review. Looks like the quality of an old school 0.9 megapixel webcam. I reckon Melican must have got something on that for the ball to jut off at that angle. That's not to say one can argue with the goal review decision, on the basis of the evidence available.
What about some decent full time umpires whilst they're at it? Stevic is not AFL standard. You can sometimes excuse an umpire because they were out of position, etc but he missed obvious frees that happened right in front of him. That incident in the first quarter where one of our guys was smacked in the face 20m out from goal is the classic example. The reply showed Stevic 10m away looking directly at the incident. He's a biased flog.

Longmire is a bit of slow learner. We were unlucky with losing Lloyd and Rohan, but why not shell out an extra plane fare and a hotel room to get Aliir in Melbourne. He surely with have helped us from getting destroyed in the contested marking.

We should have had Tippett in the side instead of Naismith. We had to play Sinclair because he had one good game and needed to prove that he couldn't repeat it. Ruckmen are a pretty useless lot unless they can clunk marks around the ground, like McEvoy, for instance.

We had so many better players in the reserves than the ones we took to Melbourne. Harry Marsh has been playing consistently well and we all know that Dawson has been on fire all season. Foote and Robbo. What a waste.

What a better side we would have had with Aliir, Tippett, Marsh and Dawson instead of Naismith, Robinson, Foote and Hayward.

We are constantly falling victim to mismatches in our defence despite playing well as unit. It really cost us tonight.
Ludwig, do you have any connection with AFL apart from being an observer?

No need to convince me on that one SS - I've been on the full time umpires bandwagon for a long time, and for exactly the same reasons as per better goal line cameras.... i.e. there is no excuse not to do it in a game rolling in the money it now is.

The two standout comedic moments tonight umpires wise were when Parker got smacked across the nose in our forward 50 and Hanners got clearly taken out in a marking contest in our forward 50 - both well within eyesight of umpires and both missed. Its really not good enough - I can accept mistakes are made, but they were two of the easiest free kicks to give you will ever see. No interpretation involved - simply blow your whistle umps and pay it.

As for Stevic, he is consistently awful - guaranteed #1 Hawks ticket holder at some stage when he retires...

He started bleeding as well so there was a fair amount of force in it. Buddy may have an MRP issue with the two Hodge hits.

Umpire do need to be full-time to work on their craft as Horse said in pre season but everyone just ignored him and said he lost a premiership and was being a whinger.

Got back from the game about an hour ago and still fuming!! Furking umpires are a furking joke. We play @@@@ and still get within 6 points. The crap the Swans have to put up with in Melbourne is infuriating! Stevic is a bunt, the others were just as bad. Buddy gets nothing although he had a stinker tonight. Joey quiet too, but it doesn't discount the fact that yet again, we have been screwed in Melbourne against who else but the Dawks. So furking frustrating to be repeatedly cheated of victory against that deluded scum.

Just to lighten the mood I did a ladder predictor with one of my kids and if things go our way we can finish the H and A season 1 game clear on top of the ladder. it may be unlikely but it is possible.
I hope the screen shot picture comes up alright.

Just watching the replay on Fox and noticed Gil the Dill sitting with and cosying up to a group of Hawk officials.......says it all really.

According to the commentators I was listening to it was Clarkson's set up at the centre bounces, bringing our defenders up the ground and causing big mismatches and disarray as they went back plus our continual bombing of the ball into the forward line and not to our advantage, which is not new, that was hurting us. I am not one who sees these things but if they were right it suggests a coaching problem. Our players were being outplayed because their game plan was not working and Hawthorn's more often was. This led to our inexperienced players being pretty ineffectual and our experienced or key players crumbling under the pressure.

What will be our excuse. Umpires. Injuries. Players. Weather. Fixture.

Or is it that Clarkson is just a way better coach. For me, pretty simple to see.

If the only games we lose after round 6 is to Hawthorn and we win the flag I will be Happy.
Then who cares if hawthorn out play/coach us. We are capable to beat all the other teams so hopefully we do.

Oh yeah, sure, a @@@@ing masterclass. They won by one kick, ONE KICK! Clarkson is a good coach but he's not some footy god. They were lucky tonight (they always are against us sans 2012). Had we received a couple of cheap inside 50 frees like they did, or benefitted from one more 50/50 bounce of the ball, we'd all be happy and cheerful and eyeing off a premiership.

Hawthorn are good against us, I admit it, but they're @@@@ing lucky too. Longmire isn't to blame.
