Good to see Smooch off the market too. He's been a super reliable defender for us over the years and has had a pretty solid year.

Dahlhaus will be going to The Cats.I've emailed the Age asking Caroline Wilson to enlighten us. They are having a trade special - I presume after the GF.

Yes, the AFL free agency model has killed off equalisation. Good teams are staying on top, and bottom teams stay on bottom.
I'd love to see the free-agency stats of what % moved to a higher ranked team, and the stats of incoming vs outgoing for the bottom 4 teams.Comment

From the article posted above. The Swans are still understood to be in negotiations to retain consistent defender Jake Lloyd, who finished second in the club's best and fairest last season and was unlucky to miss All-Australian selection last Wednesday night.
Nic Newman, who was outstanding in the team's upset win over Melbourne in round 21, also remains out of contract.
There's only two left to sign.
As much as I think he's past his use by date at this club, Hanners is STILL a contracted player and Horse has said that he's a required player.
As for journo's getting it wrong... wasn't Buddy supposed to go to GW$? That was a done deal, wasn't it?Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

Yep - free agency has not done a lot of good for equalisation of the competition imho. But when its the bulldogs getting hurt (not that I'm sure they really are, as I'm not convinced Dalhaus is that good), then it is a long time until I will feel sorry for them....

Tom Lynch will ruin the Tigers. They will have to change the way they operate going forward. Too many stars. Now instead of pressuring and running the ball forward they will just kick it to a one of their 2 big key forwards. Everyone wants to talk to Rance and Riewoldt; that's going to change. Collective Minds Part II.
The good thing about Lynch going to Richmond is that he didn't go to Hawthorn where he would have really made a big difference.Comment

Simple fix to free agency is a rule where you can't go to a club higher than the club you are leaving.
Think about it, it works on so many levels. Equalisation and removing players ransoming clubs to do trades with the threat of free agent move, and really rewards up and coming clubs. Eg. Under this system Brisbane would be a real free agent destination club.Comment
