The AFL site is now reporting that Newman is looking for a move to another club. Not overly surprised because he looked frustrated playing so much NEAFL this year, and even though he played the last third of the season in the senior team, no doubt he's looking over his shoulder at COR, Stoddart et al and realising he could be back in the NEAFL next year if he stays. He's a good depth player to me - good enough to play senior football but probably not good enough to clearly establish himself as a best 22 player. His restlessness shows just how hard it is to develop and maintain decent depth on a list. Players up to the task generally won't want to hang around where they're not getting a game.
No big suprise for mine. Wasn't able to consolidate his spot this year, and build on a good 2017 - as you say he is very much going to be looking over his shoulder at the Swans one would feel - especially if rumours we are looking at half back reinforcements elsewhere are correct. He would do well in the right setup - he is another player I don't think we have quite got his role quite correct in our team, but has the potential to be a reasonable AFL player.

Also few rumours going around that we are interested in Gaff. While his recent antics aren't exactly commendable, he is a quality footballer and would be a huge addition to the team. Can't see us matching the stupid money the desperates in Melbourne would offer him however.

In what way was he mucked ato nd by Longmire? Who was undeservedly playing at half back and keeping Newman out of the side?

I had to satisfy my curiosity... they seem to think Rohan would be the next big thing if he ends up there, and that they are going to sign every player on the planet all for bargain basement prices.

Delusional, just like the broader club that keeps living off the petrol fumes of when they were relevant back in the 90s.

In the first 11 rounds he was selected for one game then dropped immediately 3 times despite putting up reasonable numbers in two of those games. Many others who regularly stunk it up continued to be selected in the 22 in front of him.

Stoddart is one who was selected before him on at half back, but more to the point he was selected and then continually played out of position at half forward where the strength of his link play and long kicking wasn't utilised to its full potential

He's not a superstar by any means, but if a smart club picks him up then they'll get value out of him that Longmire wasn't able to

Newman played back against the Dogs and turned in a pretty bad performance, lots of turnovers.

I wondered if we were after Gaff as a Hanners replacement.

The punch potentially works in our favour as he’s a player that likes to avoid the limelight. In Sydney he would be anonymous unlike Melbourne or Perth.

The club is Gold Coast who apparently have no $ to throw at Lloyd. Who remains unsigned. I wonder if they’ll miraculously find the money during the trade period and pick up Lloyd and Newman?

                  Lloyd’s making me nervous now

If Thurlow from Cats is being discussed then he could be a good option to replace Newman and/or Lloyd

Cats board on the other site say his best position is at half back, has great disposal, good at kicking out, not necessarily hard at it (sound familiar?)

Languishing in the twos as Scarlett doesn't rate him, they seem to think he'll flourish elsewhere if he does move

Landing Gaff as a free agent is exactly what we need. He was one of the Brownlow favourites before his punch. Replacing Hanners with Gaff + draft picks (or whatever we get for Hanners) is a win every day of the week.

Like most, AFL players generally play their best footy on their last year of contract. Lloyd reminds me of Zak Jones on his last year of contract, give him an extension and he'll fall back to his mediocrity.

We can ALL punch that little grub.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Spot on, Liz. His form early in the season was very poor, and didn’t warrant him being selected.
