Jackson Thurlow has spoken to Sydney about a possible trade. My source is a very very close relative of Jackson’s.

I like Miles as a player, but he's the wrong fit for the Swans. Miles primarily has an inside game with the ability to win the contested ball. I expect that we will continue to look to outside pace and skills ahead of inside contested ball winners. Getting Miles would be a back-flip on the direction the club has been going the past several years and seemingly plans to continue.Comment

Even though most commentators fell it's a bad move on the part of St Kilda, Hannebery does bring more to the table than just his playing ability, which some have questioned due to his poor year. His leadership, work ethic and training standards should help a team like the Saints, who have looked dispirited for large portion of games. Also, having failed to secure any player of significance in the trade market, Hanners is a sort of coup for them, in the sense that they can at least say that some AA player sees them as a destination club.

Its obvious our pigs in the middle haven't been doing enough of the dirty work this season in an effective way to give us first use of the footy - and that there is too much burden falling onto Kennedy and Parker. At the end of the day, you can have as much outside pace and skills as you want, but its not much use if you can't get your hands on the ball to start with.
I am sure the focus as you say will be on outside pace and skills - but we could use another hard nose body, even if its just to allow Parker and Kennedy some support (or for instance to allow Parker to play more time up forward as a mid sized forward). Given he would be available for very little, and is likely to not demand huge money to be given a second crack at the AFL, I would be very surprised if we don't have a bit of a sniff around - unless we are after a much bigger name that is a more complete midfielder. We could do a lot worse."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

A bit of an aside, but can someone explain to me the apparently wide-acceptance of AFLers, professional athletes, "requesting" trades (to Victoria, mainly) because they want to "go home" or are "homesick"? This, to me, is lunacy. The moment you become a professional athlete, I would think you should play (and play hard) for whomever you are contacted to play for. You are an adult and I don't care if you are homesick. Now I understand (and support) someone like Hanneberry moving on because it benefits both sides and sometimes a player needs fresh start. But it seems every year, more and more young guys, with years left in their contracts, are demanding trades to "go home". Am I missing something here? It seems to me that teams need to learn to say "no" and demand the professionals be professionals. I understand they may leave when their contracts expire, but it frequently appears like the lunatics are running the asylum.
In the real world, contracts have to be honoured, otherwise there are consequences. That's why you have a signed contract in the first place.
These days, like pre-nups, they're not the paper they're written on.
I'm of the belief that if we believe in you enough to sign a four or five year contract, you should have the balls to honour it.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Report this morning that even with Lynch going, GC do not have much cap space. Another example of the amateur goings on up there under previous administration. That's why Lloyd to GC isn't on, I really hope we get him re-signed.
If we move on Hanners, Rohan and don't have Tippett money in next year's cap, we must have a fair bit to play with, something cooking I reckon.Comment

I expect Rohan to thrive at a new club. I think Sydney's game plan and the small confines of the SCG have held him back from reaching his full potential. Play in a team that run and spread the ball on a bigger oval and I think he will show what he is truly capable of. Hope he proves me correct as he seems a very genuine person and I wish him all the best."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Defender may be third Swan to fly the nest - AFL.com.au
The AFL site is now reporting that Newman is looking for a move to another club. Not overly surprised because he looked frustrated playing so much NEAFL this year, and even though he played the last third of the season in the senior team, no doubt he's looking over his shoulder at COR, Stoddart et al and realising he could be back in the NEAFL next year if he stays. He's a good depth player to me - good enough to play senior football but probably not good enough to clearly establish himself as a best 22 player. His restlessness shows just how hard it is to develop and maintain decent depth on a list. Players up to the task generally won't want to hang around where they're not getting a game.Comment

Of course something is cooking people! It's on the backburner, slow-cooking, for maximum flavour.
Have a little patience and the full flavours will develop.

If the coach isn't going to play him or use him properly then I don't blame him for going. Agree that he is on the fringe of the best 22, but after a pretty good 2017 season on the half back flank he was yet another player mucked around by Longmire
GWS aside, other teams don't have the same problem that we do retaining their fringe talent. Our salary cap issues would certainly play a part, but you'd have to wonder how much the propensity for favourites to remain in the seniors regardless of injury and form over the last few years has played a partComment
