That was a great pick swap getting rid of that useless pick 13 for 3 very usable picks for the kind of players now being considered by the Swans. Having 5 picks between picks 26 and 40 gives us a lot of flexibility to come to an agreed value for a player.

I don't know how to value Tom Langdon, but he would fit well into our back line. We could probably let go of Marsh as well.

I'm not sure what happens if no one wants Newman. He could stay at the club. He's one of our better depth players.

I think pick 39 plus the Saints 2019 2nd rounder is about right for Hanners, but there are still many other possibilities that could complete the trade.

Who was complaining about lack of trade activity yesterday?

Swans confirm interest in Langdon - sydneyswans.com.au

Head of Football Tom Harley told reporters on Wednesday of his side's interest in the 24-year-old. "He flew to Sydney yesterday and had a medical," Harley said. "We spoke to (Magpies list manager) Ned Guy about that on Monday, so we've been transparent with Collingwood...

Harley said the addition of Langdon would free up Callum Mills and Zak Jones to play midfield...

"We've attacked this trade period with specific needs and we think we can add to our back half, which might free up some of our young, developing half-backs who we think are mids – Jones, Mills, those types."

Also of interest is the ability to trade picks on draft day. Say a team has eyes on a player who is drafted the pick before their pick (but the Swans have eyes on another player still on the board) then they might be willing to trade back for two later picks. Stocking up on picks in the 20-35 range might be very handy.

            So good
The strategy of moving jones and mills into the mid rotation so much YES

The two Langdon brothers would be amazing to take over

This is a great point, thinking that teams like North needing points for Tarryn Thomas and Bailey Scott could allow us to trade up the order after we have already matched a bid for Blakey.

We don't have either yet, and haven't made a play for Ed, but I think that the general strategy is a good one.

                  Lol ????

Well I just called Tom Harley and left a message that markwebbos and AuntieG just booked some tickets from direct to Tanzania to get this one over the line ????????

The message I left said “Harley I will personally carry a back pack of batteries and a satellite phone so they can both can make the call to say YES !!!”

Exert from afl site today re Langdon brothers

“He is travelling to Africa with brother and Fremantle wingman Ed Langdon, along with their father, as they prepare to climb Mt Kilimanjaro”

I’d love both players this year but if we area shot at getting ed Langdon the year after that would be awesome

I just read in the Herald Sun that we got 26, 28 AND 40 as part of that McGovern deal. Is this true? If so, a little better outcome for us than 26 and 28 as reported elsewhere.

Yep we did - got 3 picks rather than the 2. So 2 2nd round picks and an early 3rd round pick.

If so the deal is far better than people thought. Picking up over 600 points by giving up 13. Its equivalent to 5/6. I'm still not convinced that this is all correct. It seems a little too good to be true. I hope that I am wrong.

That's what shows on the AFL trade tracker. We got pick 40 from Adelaide hence the confusion.

It is what has been reported. Most of all I think this shows that the AFL has the shape of the points curve wrong, assigning too much relative value to second and third round picks. On the other hand, I believe the slope is too steep at the top end of the draft - ie the difference in points value from pick 1 to pick 2, and from pick 2 to pick 3, etc, is too high.
