I'm surprised nobody here has suggested we go after Dom Tyson, Melbourne have said they are willing to trade him and he would be a good inside midfielder who has some agility on the outside and pretty good disposal efficiency. Surely he is worth a look given he is 25 and in that prime age bracket we should be looking at. Matthew Lloyd said yesterday that Gold Coast were front runners for Tyson at this stage - surely we would be a more attractive option for him?

I agree with this and keep thinking of Collingwood this year. They were not very active in last years trade period which had people scratching their heads as to how the Magpies were going to improve at all. They came up with a game plan that stacks up and even in the face of all their injuries, they still made the GF with a team laced with 'unherealded' players. Horse needs to accept that there are more ways to improve than just adding players and improving the list......with injury luck, I think we do have the cattle on our list to compete well.....but our game plan needs to be tweaked so it again 'stacks up'!

Collingwoods improvement came from change of assistants and a completely new gameplan. If only Horse would allow that!

I actually see a lot of merit in this argument.
Of course having a team of stars provides a different dynamic and will allow for success even without a solid game plan.
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

We actually don't have the cattle for our current gameplan. As demonstrated in season 2018. So either new cattle or new plan or both!

Dom Tyson would be a reasonable get. An even better one would be a different Dom, currently on the other side of the country. A month before the end of the H&A season he was languishing in the WAFL. I found it odd that he couldn't get a game for West Coast but maybe there was something specific he wasn't delivering. Then Gaff got himself suspended, Sheed came in and took his spot, and played excellent football, including a close to BOG performance in the grand final. I imagine that he'll want to stay with his premiership winning team mates, and that West Coast will want to keep him, but with Gaff's decision to stay, his spot in the team next year maybe isn't quite as guaranteed as it looked with Gaff set to leave.

I don't think it's particularly likely he'll be available (and if he were, there would be a host of clubs after him) but if West Coast have any serious interest in getting Tim Kelly to them, they might be willing to let someone go in exchange for some decent trade currency.

Does a discount still apply when matching a bid for a F/S or Academy draft pick?

+1 I did mention getting Dom Tyson on 7th October:

Still think we need to urgently recruit an A grade midfielder to replace Hannebery (assuming he'll get to Saints). Despite his past 2 seasons performances hampered by interrupted pre-seasons, I still class Hanners as an A grader overall. I rate Dom Tyson who I think can easily become an A grader who is linked to Essendon.

Which is what I was hoping for this season with our own injection of new assistants.....but it didn't seem to happen.....and now our future coach in waiting has gone to North. Yes, open your mind to other ideas Horse! Why do you have assistants if you're not going to listen to them?

We didn't in 2018 but with some natural maturation and development from talented youngsters and a few returning injurees, we might have in 2019.

I also maintain that many on here confuse what they witnessed the Swans produce in 2018 with what they were trying to produce, which in part goes to your point about not having the list (at least in 2018) to execute the plan, but also clouds perceptions on how the Swans were/will be trying to play.

Isn't that the rub for the Swans: we have no decent trade currency? If we use our picks 1 and 3 to pay for Blakey, our only currency is our 2nd pick (around 33) and whatever bits and pieces we get for Hannebery and Rohan - less what we use on Duryea or van den Berg. Most of the unrestricted free agents are spoken for, and we simply don't have any draft points to play with to trade for a top player, whatever the $ involved.

I wonder if there are any Academy smokies coming through next year?

But it's been a long time since he has put together any decent run at footy. Add in the d###head factor. Do we give him a shot and hope our strong culture stacks up?
Pass. Not a good sign when Dusty of all people said that he's "too loose".
