    ok ok.
Cancel all that. Looks like we have already traded pick 13 for 26 and 28. This is a done deal to the Blues.

200 more points, we can now fully cover any bid from pick 6 onwards. If Blakey did slip a bid then we'd have an extra pick created late in the draft. Good outcome.

Yep so original guess re Carlton swap for pick 13 happened

Which also gives us trading room for an important trade ie Langdon or someone similar cost re trade?

we still have picks 33 and 38 and can use all four picks irbfor Blakey (two picks) and another one or two important trades

Picks we now have 26,28,33,38,67 plus Rohan and hannes

So that exchange with Carlton means about pick 6/7 onwards in pts value for Blakey or acombo of above

        My guess:

Langdon = pick 26 to pies

Blakey = picks 28,33,67(with potentially small future demerit pts if at all)

Bandenberg = pick 38 will get it done

Duryea = pick50 to hawks (ie Cats give us pick 50 intrade for Rohan)

R.Clarke = Newman (straight swap with north)

Newnes or p.mcartin / future pick = hannes

I definitely liked what of him I saw on GF day. Reads it very well, good skills and yes, courageous. Would be a good fit.....but I still wonder, with our defensive stocks, both young and old, is he what we need most? If the club think we do need more in defence, maybe vandenBerg would be a cheaper option to tick that box.

            Vandenberg midfield
            Mills midfield rotation
Langdon plays plus 1 in defence and or transition

Duryea is free agent. Costs us no pick.

All sounds good but with Duryea being a free agent no picks need to be given up by us.

                  Revised !!!

                  My guess:

                  Tom.Langdon = pick 26 to pies

Ed Langdon = pick 28 to freeo plus future pick from hannes deal with saints

Newnes or p.mcartin / future pick = hannes

D.clarke = possible from bombersthis year or next

All sounds good to me. Wont need to pay anything for duryea. Might as well draft a kid.

We can’t just accumulate lots of picks. Didn’t they change the rules so we can only use as many as we have live trades.

Who can explain in more detail what that means in practice?

The timing of a big fish is not this year.

For 2018 Nick Blakey is a priority, better position our salary cap for 12 months time (Tippett off salary cap, Hanners traded this year), probable retirements in 12 months McVeigh, Grundy and Jack. 2019 is better timing for that big fish. Bontempelli out of contract....yes please. If not Bontempelli, we're in a great position to land someone big in 12 months.

I think swapping pick 13 for the two Blues picks is a pretty ordinary deal for this time of the week unless one of those picks is earmarked to trade for another player. If the objective is purely to increase the total points value I reckon there would have been a better deal available, especially later in the week as clubs get more desperate. A pick around that 13 point is pretty valuable to clubs wanting to trade it for a McGovern or a Kelly, say. I reckon we could have got more than a 200 point increase.

2018 priorities is getting Nick Blakey, clearing more salary cap space for 12 months time and topping up with some players with upside aged in their low to mid 20's. Salary cap space in 12 months time will not have Hanners and Tippett contracts with also probable McVeigh, Grundy and Jack retirements. Bontempelli is out of contract this time next year and the environment at the Bulldogs is not a happy one. I'd love him but my message is we are in a great position to land the big fish this time next year.

Nick Blakey is expected to be bid from other clubs within the first 10 picks so we would have had to use our next pick (13) to bid for him if the case. The strategy for swapping pick 13 for a few in the 20's is that we'll still get Blakey a top 10 rated junior plus get more draft currency.

                                I agree Liz
In a perfect world let’s take west coasts picks to facilitate kelly because we gain an extra 200pts

That would assume Harley has heard from the cats they are keen? Or maybe Harley heard that the cats are not happy or west coast are not willing?

But it appears that the club may have managed risk ahead of downsidethat may beento much

We may have enough info to act now for the better

                                A alternative option is :

What if Ed Langdon is who we are seriuouly after along with Tom Langdon ?....... and now have made it more difficult for west coast to pick up kelly and easier for freeo to continue to entice kelly ?

What if we now can give freeo another bargaining chip with another pick in exchange for Ed Langdon to come to the swans along with his brother Tom ? Now that would be brash But sensational !!

So we have helped ourselves re points no1 and made it happen no matter what (two birds in the hand so to speak lol) ie we have made sure we didn’t get stuck with Geelong not budging nor west coast not budging to make the kelly deal happen

We can now work hard with Collingwood and with freeo potentially re the two Langdon boys for the sake of 200pts

Now that is worth way more then 200pts of it comes off

Harley must have an ok relationship with old mates at Geelong

Same for our freeo and swans head coaches maybe making a phone call ? Still mates
