I suspect Vandeburg is our number one target after Blakey.

We shouldn't forget that while other clubs are scrapping and giving things up to get a top five or six draft pick WE HAVE ONE IN THE BAG!
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

I understand the purpose and value of trading down that pick and accumulating more points in the process. I just think a better deal might have been available from clubs who don't care about points but value a pick 13 highly.

WC only hope of getting Kelly you would think is our pick plus change for 20 & 22. Think Port could also have a good deal and would like 13 to go with 10 & 11.

I'm assuming those clubs have already said no so Carlton's is the best available.

Great news for us that Shiel chose to go for the bombers. Saints will need the deal for hanners to go through now.

I think the club obviously rates Blakey, Long and Stoddart as young mids.
            So for Under 25s
Add them to Florent, Heeney, Jones, Hewett, Mills and Ronke.
            That's your midfield.

Then throw McCartin, Hayward and Papley fwd.

Langdon, Melican and Aliir down back.

Parker, Lampe, (Vandenberg), and Reid can stay around for a few more years.

Then the next challenge is to get a young gun fwd in at the end of 2019. e.g Todd Marshall.

Salary cap space in 12 months time will not have Hanners and Tippett contracts with also probable McVeigh, Grundy and Jack retirements. Bontempelli is out of contract this time next year and the environment at the Bulldogs is not a happy one. I'd love him but my message is we are in a great position to land the big fish this time next year.
That is a interesting synopsis because next year we may have less clubs to compete with in snaring a big fish, when you consider lot of clubs won't have cap space to do so based on who they may or have snared this year:

                Tigers - Lynch
                Essendon - Shiel
                Hawthorn/Bulldogs - Wingard
                Pies/Dees - May
                WC - Gaff/Kelly
                North - Polec/Hall/Josh Kelly (2019)
GWS - existing cap space issues
                Lions - Neale
                Dockers - Hogan/Lobb

here we go again being nice to other clubs either WC (to get Kelly from geelong, swap 13 for 20&22 according to Herald zSun) or the Blues to help them get McGovern swap 13 for 23 & 28. Although I understand the ratrional (to get Blakeys pts) WHY cant we help ourselves first with Hanners and get a higher pick, let other clubs help us. instead of hindering. Wait and see some club will bid higher for Blakey than expected. Probably north. while we get steak knives for hanners who will be on the same salary longer term at sts. As a free agent that would give us a reasonable compensation ( I know hes not) but if sts want him make them do deal to suit us

I'll bite. It's a yes for me. I really don't think we have much to lose. Harley can't be on big coin. This would be his third club and last chance. Our culture and strong leadership would stand up, like it did with Talia and Hall. When he's on the field, HB can be electrifying. I think the reward is worth the risk!

So picks 26 and 28 combined equal pick 6

                      With the 20% discount applied

Pick 6 - we have equivalent to pick 6 by trading pick 13..........that is a serious win for us

Much more protected for Blakey especially if we cant trade any further with west coast which u would suspect is the case

More flexibility to use one of the 20s pick if needed to draft another player or two then us using say 33,38,67 if we think Blakey might go at pick 10 and then carry a small 200pt deficit to next year (unlikely but possible option)

Have max flexibility for other trades now ie if we want :

                      Langdon Tom pick 26

                      Langdon Ed pick 28

Vandenberg pick 50 from Rohan trade?

                      R.clarke direct swap for Newman

D.clarke future pick 3rd round? From part of our pick 13

Duryea nil trade cost free agent

If that happens I am stoked

                      ———-

We need 4 of these 6 players next few years

With the change of the guard this year and next couple of years ie hannes, rohan, Tippett macca, Grundy, Jack, Smith bit by bit leaving we needed depth and emerging experience now into our squad

Ed Langdon is a bit of a weapon and can be used up front or down back or on the wing ....... fast and tenacious in tackling and can accumulate possession plus kick goals......4th year in system

Regarded as Freemantles best running player.....hmm

Surely the blues owe us a favour after that trade

Auntie, is this just your musings regarding Ed or have you heard/read our interest somewhere?

                              My musings AB

Rumours are that ed Langdon is potentially on the move but back to Victoria has been the rumours

I know we want run and carry outside

We have lost hannes and this has to be filled.....we struggled without his runthis year

Could not afford shiels or gaff even if an option

I think looking at our sal cap vs gws, west coast, tigers pies and hawks we are in really good shape

We were the second youngest team in the top8 this year and would indicate we have some money combined with hannes and Tippett and Rohan leaving our sal cap

It just makes a lot sense to be going hard for both langdons but for me ed Langdon is a gem and a serious emerging footballer about to dominate 2019 and beyond

Obviously a club looks at every team player and option to get the roles u need

Ed Langdon fits that in spades and would be a Luke warm possibility vs other running options right now this season or next

Price vs playing potentially with his brother, Longmire ross Lyon friendship to potentially provide a win win outside the the square

we now have the picks to make something work

“Langdon is enjoying a breakout season in purple, averaging a career-high 23 disposals and five score involvements per outing.”

Jasper Pittard was just traded to North as the steak knives in the Jared Polec deal. I wonder if this affects North’s interest in Newman given Pittard and Newman play similar roles off half back.
