Quite a good quarter, against a possibly understrength Southport. Many good players. The promising McVeigh actually topped our tackle count in that half with six: and that from playing mainly in the forward line, with occasional time in the midfield. In the middle, Clarke has been good and is the leading possession getter. Both Knoll and Amartey have spent useful time in the ruck; with Knoll looking a bit more agile than usual. McLean is our only multiple goal kicker with two. I'm starting to think that he may be earning himself a contract for next year. He can take a strong mark at pace, seems to be a fairly reliable shot at goal, and now that his fitness is improving, he's getting to more contests. Probably needs a breakout game, though. Menzel seems a bit fitter this week, maybe Darwin just didn't agree with him. Stoddart continuing with his very good form. Young academy player Thorne has also looked good; playing more of an outside role than he plays at academy level and showing plenty of dash.

Some of these guys are auditioning for a senior spot next week, now that finals are gone, time to try a few out.

I thought that our defence was good that quarter, led by Stoddart and McKellar. Only two goals to Southport; one of them a mystifying fifty. Amartey with two goals; one of them a running effort from the fifty, which just beat the siren.
