just watched the video of barrett complaining of "the circus Harley created about Joe".
So if you meet a friend when he is in your town and others put their own presumptions on to that he's saying that's your fault?
    What a @@@@ wit.

Taylor and Papley can easily play in the same team. Means that it squeezes out Ronke and Hayward/Papley/Taylor have to rotate through the midfield.

Yes I think Taylor’s inclusion might allow Papley to get some serious midfield minutes next year , especially with Jones gone. Then my prophecy of Papley winning the Brownlow one day is a step closer to fruition. He still has a lot of improvement in him I feel.

Reading BF I'm flummoxed that so many Essendon supporters are angry at swans for screwing up the deal. They simultaneously wanted to get rid of JD and felt we didn't offer enough. Um...

Stoked at the outcome and I feel super proud of our club for holding the line.
Essendon supporters just assumed we'd massively overpay and if you read their board they'd already picked ND players with the raft of picks we were giving them.

Their worried now that Joe doesn't get over his injury and that he may want to leave again next year but they will get less.

Carlton board is embarrasing, a lot of that they were entitled to get Martin for next to nothing and blaming the Suns for not taking what they were offered. Good on the Suns, I hope Martin is redrafted by them in the PSD or gets to the Dees before Carlton.

That is a twist.....add to that us pissing them off at the mid season draft by picking Knoll. Could get interesting.

I reckon there will be a lot of pick trading in the lead up to the ND and wouldn't be surprised if we're involved, not that I have formed any ideas on what/why we may do.

GWS is one to watch, they'll definitely be doing a deal with Melbourne IMO to get pick 3 to take a player before Crows or us bid on Green at pick 4/5. What is interesting by my reckoning is that they are currently a pick 20 or pick 23 points short to match that pick. All will be revealed in the next month.

The Taylor deal is very interesting given we did not trade Papley in the end. I read somewhere that Taylor's tank is not good which limits his usefulness elsewhere. As mentioned earlier, it probably means Wicks is in trouble. I feel sorry for him as he probably deserves another year to develop. I'm also not sure where all of this leaves Menzel? Perhaps his career is now over?

A few comments were made about Gardner earlier. In the end, the Club made the right calls. Always best to walk away than do a bad deal. So good marks there. I don't care how he came across at the press conference. Besides he is relatively new to the job. Bluster and confidence can come later.

My only issue with our trade period is whether we spent too much time trying to get Joe in the door and not enough on other options such as a potential good midfielder? It really was a C performance overall. We did not go forward or backward based on trades but we do go to the draft with a nice set of cards to deal.

Charlie Gardiner re-iterated what Harley said, which was that the much publicised JD-TH chat was just that, and the idea Daniher might want to be traded to Sydney was separate and happened very late in the piece. In other words he contradicted Barratt (who along with Sam Maclure says Harley is lying).

I can see why both sides chose not to do a trade for JD. I really hope he has a great year next year, and then walks to the Swans in the PSD for nothing.

I'm actually sad to see Jones go, but not as concerned as I would have been a couple of years ago when he was one of our quickest players.

Very happy with todays events also and even happier that Essendon fans are angry!

Talk of not targeting potential good midfielders, can someone enlighten me on which of those changed clubs and would have wanted to come to us?

So many trades end up list cloggers, I'd rather take a chance at the draft and be a little more patient.

I have to say I find it amusing to discover that after everyone has been losing their minds for the past two weeks, the people who are paid to manage this as a full-time job, acted like reasonable, rational, professionals.

Even Dodoro, based on reporting of his actual comments, was pretty reasonable I think. I would have said much the same in his position - "I don't want high picks. Joe is irreplaceable from our list, so I need one of your players to replace him".

If you just ignore what the media says then it's all pretty calm really.

The funniest thing I heard was on trade radio this morning, where Dal Santo was arguing that "Essendon couldn't win the flag in 2020 without Daniher" and Maclure was arguing they could. I nearly rang in and said "You're kidding yourself if you think Essendon can win next year with OR without Daniher"

Foxsports have published their gradings for trade period: AFL trade tracker | AFL trade period done deals, every completed move of the 2019 trade period, free agent signings | Fox Sports. They gave us a C, which I concur with.

I obviously had a goldfish memory in my last post when I said West Coast had a quiet trade period. There were a few other clubs that were quieter.
