Agree , hence why the discussion for me should be more around if we would give away pick 4 for someone of lloyds ilk in another team.

We need lloyd , we are severely lacking in senior experience and even more so next year and another topliner in their mid twenties would be ideal.

Why not Clarke for that guy at Carlton - Newman

Welcome to the world of fantasy trading, you can keep ammused for hours reading people's ideas of what constitutes a fair trade.

The reality is in what really happens in October when suddenly players are worth way less in the actual trade than what sellers were spruiking. Only rarely does a trade happen that is clearly erroneous and now nearly always involves the Suns and 20 years ago Freo!

If Jones does leave I think we'll find we don't get what many on here (&BF) think we'll get. Required players are almost always worth more to the club losing them than what they'll get.

Lloyd highly unlikely to be going anywhere and not for pick 2. GC want the pre draft PP to select Rowell & Anderson ans lessen the go home at end of 2021.

Brayden Sier and Will Brodie, two out-of-contract inside bulls, appear to be off the table now.

Ollie Wines name has been floated as a possibility. Surely not? 707, goswannies - got any SA intel?

A dominant ruckman is a must and we need to make this happen yesterday

When we start coming out even on clearances via a dominant ruckman we are back in the run for 2020

One of the scenarios around GC being given pick 2 was on the basis they HAD to swap it for a player. There’s no guarantees they’d pick those two or that they’d both want to stay on the GC

Coming from a time and place when if you were still living at home at 19 you were generally regarded as having something wrong
with you, I have a bit of an empathy bypass when it comes to hearing about these guys on six figure salaries wanting to head
home as fast as contractually possible. Maybe the draft age should be another year or so higher, so that they are a bit more mature
and able to withstand the rigours of living a one or two hour business class flight from "home" with a little more fortitude.

It's Naismith or bust, I fear. I can't see how we can make this happen by recruiting one from another club. If a club has dominant ruckman, they're very unlikely to let him go.

Sam Jacobs is a RFA this year, but will be 32 in April. He might be good for 2 or 3 years. Maybe by then we will work out another solution.

The only problem I have with Naismith is that he's always injured. If he can stay on the park, I'm happy enough for him to be our #1 ruckman, with Sinclair as a backup.

Just to be a bit provocative, what about trading down with our draft pick e.g. if we could get GWS' picks 12 & 13 for our first and pick 40 (my numbers might not be exact but you get the idea)? They say the first two picks are standouts (Chris Doerre evidently includes Green in the same category) and then it's a bit more even after that. That would allow GWS to draft another player before having to match a bid on Green (and it negates the possibility of our bidding on him and surely we must have a more than average interest in a NSW player).

We recruited ruck-forwards at a time the game was heading that way. It’s now swung the other way and we have only Naismith and, possibly one day in the future, Knoll on our list who could be #1 ruckman.

Even if Cameron could play that role don’t think he’ll be at the Swans next year.

Other clubs have developed their own: Ladhams, O’Brien, Marshall, English, Grundy etc.

Think we have to draft a couple and be patient.

                            Regarding our Ruck approach....

There is no need to recruit a ruckman at all.

We arent going to win a flag next year, so if it Nainsmith (great) or Sinkers (ok) it wont matter.
Grassy Knoll is our next significant ruckman who may get a few games next year, blossoming when Sinkers retires.
Over the next few years we need to pick up a couple of young ruckmen for the post-knoll era.

We need to draft /trade to fill other gaps in the list.

Will Brodie just signed for 3 more years. Sier wants to stay at Collingwood, and despite the basketball incident, I think the Pies will want to keep him.

All true . Also true that pies have Grundy , Moore and De Goey to re-sign over the next 12 months. Not sure that leaves a heap left over for Sier, and I’m sure as much as he wants to stay, that an extra 100-200k a year and extra couple of years contract might be cause for him to reconsider . Plus the opportunity to be the big dog inside midfielder.
