    I've accepted that perhaps his best position is in defence. He can play any role in defence, from locking down a dangerous small to muscling up on a KPF. He generates run, can take a good intercept mark and is generally clean on disposal. Most importantly, he's so brave. Just needs to improve his ball use under intense pressure to become elite. As Ted Richards said, defenders win premierships, and in Mills, we have the guy to build future flags around.

      AFLPA's 22 under 22 is also a fan vote, so I wouldn't put a lot of stock into it (Dawson not being in there is criminal). With that said, it's easy to underestimate Mills' impact given the role he plays.

        I posted this in the Season Review thread:
        Forget Mills in the centre, he is needed as the back half general ala Macca, he has demonstrated that steadiness like Macca to get to the right place at the right time.

          So if we could get pick 7/8 for Papley and use it for Daniher as a pre-agent?

          I’d do the deal

            So you would swap Papley for Daniher effectively ?

                Harley has come out in the media to call out the AFL to acknowledge that the Swans have an unfair fight to retain the likes of Papley and Jones.

                I can only read the teaser, but given the timing of Harley's comments, it says to me we might be losing at least one of these battles.

                  Didn't he say, "Defenders win premierships, Forwards win memberships"? Quite clever, and accurate.

                    Indicative draft order post-R23: Did the Blues win THAT live trade? - AFL.com.au
                    You need to take into account that Academy players get a 20% discount on the pick value.

                    So:
                    * pick 1 (3000 points) × 0.8 = 2400.0 can be matched with picks 13,14 and 71 (2402 points).
                    * pick 2 (2517 points) × 0.8 = 2013.6 can be matched with picks 16 and 19 (2015 points).
                    * pick 3 (2234 points) × 0.8 = 1787.2 can be matched with picks 20 and 21 (1790 points).
                    * pick 4 (2034 points) × 0.8 = 1627.2 can be matched with picks 23, 24 and 71 (1629 points).

                    (I have used two picks close together to simulate the Giants' current picks.)

                    The discussion centred around the Giants and Green. The Giants already hold two mid-first-round picks (currently 11 and 13) and pick 49. If the Giants are looking for more draft points, they must be insuring for a bid at pick 1. That won't be happening unless Gold Coast have a priority pick at #2 as well and they're forcing the Giants' hand by drafting Green at #1. (With only pick 1, Gold Coast will probably draft Matt Rowell to ensure they get him).

                    The real reason for the Giants' speculative trade for the Demons' #2 pick is here: Why the Giants are eyeing off the Demons' No.2 draft pick (to get two picks in the top 5 including Green).

                      I always thought that only members of the AFLPA (ie, the players) were allowed to vote?

                        Wouldn't it be intriguing if the Demons decided to go after Jones (so he can play with his brother) and come over the top of the other clubs with a better offer?

                        Pick 2 for Jones and pick 23 ... hmm.

                            I'd personally put Papley well ahead of Daniher. He's younger and scores more goals per season, considering that Daniher will miss games due to injury. I also think Papley has more upside; he could be anything next year based on his trend.

                                The AFL is the only pro league where this happens. In the NBA, most players can be traded overnight to any city without their consent and they just have to go. Period. The AFL is for emotional babies. There should be a requirement that if a player wants to 'go home', they first have to enter pre-school again and they can resume their footy careers once they grow up.

                                Gil McLachlan, not having addressed this problem is a failure as AFL CEO and should resign. Why can't we get a CEO who wants to make the AFL a fair competition? The fans outside of Melbourne deserve it. All the AFL want to do is collect to money from the TV rights a the hell with the fans. It's a disgrace.

                                The AFL should tell Jack Martin and Callum Ah Chee they are going nowhere, unless they want to take up tennis or lawn bowls.
