As per the Swans website, the NEAFL boys are having their season reviews today so would assume the club will be making the anticipated delistings very soon. All the rest of the players have had their review already and are off on end of season travels. Can't wait to see who we keep and who we delist, it will give us some insight into direction of Swans for 2020 season.
2019 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel

Simon Darymple was quoted earlier this year how it is critical in Sydney to be a top8 team in part to keep eyeballs on AFL in a city with so many sports and activities to be part of.
For me we were given 2019 as a grace period by the media, supporters and sponsors but we need to be a top8 most of the time and 2020 is possible with the right list of players.
This grace period will be tested this draft trade period and through season 2020. I suspect we have a little leniency in 2020 but not if we go sideways or backwards
I for one don't think the Swans hold on it's audience is really that tenuous
Thinking back, Sydney didn't fall in love with the Swans until it witnessed the Swans comeback from 26 consecutive losses - the Cinderella story
But you can't be Cinderella, unless you spend time amongst the cinders - constantly being thereabouts but not really challenging isn't a story, it's a monotony.
And no, I'm not advocating bottoming out, just questioning whether dropping out of the finals for a year is something that needs to be compensated for.
So despite, this last season, I expect next year will see no drop in crowds or memberships and I'm confident we will make the finals - unless something untoward happens.Last edited by Ruck'n'Roll; 10 September 2019, 06:23 PM.Comment

Brisbane lions is a blueprint for us. They built a core of support during the 3-peat years (visa ve 2005-2016 for us). Then had some lean years where crowds dropped a bit (maybe our immediate future), but they all came back once they were successful again. There final sold out in 14 minutes.Comment

I don’t agree we should accept 2020 as a year slightly better or much of the same
If we are smart enough we can still trade in enough talent to get us from 8 wins in 2019 to minimum 12 wins in 2020
This won’t put us behind for the future. We have a stack of retired 2019 $ to use and we need more experience and dependable week in week out decision makers that take the pressure off our emerging young talent.
Our talls at either end have good depth for 2020 but I feel we are not where we want to be with our Back flanker rebounding
Simon Darymple in his “draft interview” alluded to u can never have enough serious depth in the midfield and he was happy with our talls in defence and attack
I think we need more experience in the Ruck and another experienced and or emerging potential 10yr AFL midfielder to join us.
Our clearances are unacceptable and don’t allow us to compete against the best teams.
our organic development in our midfield will not be enough to rectify our clearances in 2020
We need to give ourselves the best opportunity to change the clearance part of our game to be at least 50/50
For me that means compliment what we have with more talent via trade"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I recognise we have some good young kids coming through. We also have the potential of what Mills could do in the midfield. But we need to balance potential with current playing ability. We really need to trade in a midfielder who is further developed than our current youngsters.
Trading for a ruckman, either currently playing firsts or one who is not far off and a KPD would be my priority. We are pretty good for KPF. So unless we are looking at moving some on, I can't really see why the club would be interested in Daniher and Wood at this stage.Comment

I don't think you can be too precise in predictions for future years. I don't think you can put together a five year plan and say top 8 2020, top 4 2021, premiers 2022.
It is too hard to account for injuries, form, players going backwards.or improving and the performances of other teams.Comment

While I had pretty much let go of the idea of getting Daniher this year, this article is fanning the flames of the idea: Future up in the air as star Bomber considers options - AFL.com.au.
Afl.com.au also says the Swans were interested in the Saints Jack Newnes last year (a mid-sized midfielder, 25 yo and 150 games) and he remains unsigned. Plus they mentioned Fletcher Roberts of the Bulldogs as an unsigned KPD who hasn't been getting a game with Dogs lately - wonder whether we'd have any interest. Personally I'm much more interested in either Aaron Francis (Essendon) or Alex Keath (Adelaide) both of whom are chances of moving. All opinions are not equal. Question: we've traded for current picks 50 (West Coast's 3rd rounder) and 57 (Carlton's 4th rounder) - why? What are we going to do with them?
Given we also have picks 23, 40 and 58, how can we spin them into gold? We're probably not going to draft more than 4 which means picks 50, 57 and 58 are only going to be worth something if we use them to trade up the order. The most obvious to me way of doing this is by selling them to a club that just needs some points to pay for an Academy or father/son pick. E.g. Would Hawthorn want to sell us pick 28 (677 DVI points) for 40, 57 and 58 (429, 182 and 170, totalling 781) to help them pay for Finn Maginness? - This might leave them with a better pick after they have paid for him and would leave us with picks 4, 23, 28, and 50 which looks pretty good to me!All opinions are not equal. What the cr@p?! Rowie on 5AA just declared that Paps was keen to go to Carlton now?! Rowie is a verbal nuffer at the best of times, his comments often having his mouth bypassing his cerebral cortex with a stutter, but is there anything to this that I haven’t heard yet?!Comment

John Ralph On AFL Tonight said that Papley was going to Carlton. He didn’t even discuss - mentioned in passing as in “and so with Papley going to Carlton....”"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

And it seems to be widely accepted that we would get pick 8 for him, which would be fair enough. However, there is speculation we would give picks 4 and 8 for Daniher, which would be overs given his recent injury history and that he's one year out from free agency.Comment

What is the trade ?
Paps for pick 8 ?
8 to Essendon for JD ?"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Maybe two extra wins at most. We would be going from a 3-1-1 fixture to at best a 1-1-3 fixture. I'm expecting something tougher, like 1-2-2 or worse. You know how hard Eddie leans on the AFL commission to penalise the Swans any time the Swans get anything better than evens at anything."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment
