Tim Watson is now saying on SEN that he has “no doubt in his mind” that Daniher wants to move on from Essendon and go to somewhere like Sydney.

Tom Papley's contract set-up to protect the Swans from this very scenario. Papley's games-played trigger ties him to the SCG for another 2 years-a length that's surprised some in the industry. Formerly,a trigger had be activated by a player before being relevant, but now automatic
Tweet from Hun reporter. Looks like the club had an idea that Paps might try and do a runner. Well done Swans management!
Let's hope they now either drive a hard bargain with the Blues, or failing that, hold Paps to another 2 years.Comment

Could you imagine the grilling Watson, Lloydo and Sheeds would've given JD at the B&F last night? Geez. They obviously weren't happy with some of his answers and now Watson has 'no doubt in his mind' that Daniher wants to move on.Comment

It's very odd that Mitch Cleary (who as an AFL journo you would think would do some basic research) describes Papley (on a current podcast) as an RFA next year. Bizarre that he could get something so incorrect. Even if he were out of contract at the end of the 2020 season, he still wouldn't be a free agent.Comment

It looks like we'll be going down thugby league mode at this rate - players leaving a club in the middle of the season!!
Again, a contracted player should honour their contract.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

I was listening to Trade Radio and a caller made a really interesting point.
To avoid the 'go home factor', why aren't our club targeting blokes who have a connection to the club? For example, if a player grew up barracking for the swans, why wouldn't we target them to get to the club? That way, we can build a team of players who are either connected to the club as supporters or grew up in NSW etc.Comment

The Bombers, according to a new report, are about to have Fantasia ask for a trade to Port Adelaide. If Daniher follows they will be hopping mad. Essendon like to be the poacher not poachee! They will be hard to get a fair deal out of.

What am I missing here with discussion on Daniher's draft pick worth?
I cant see how estimates of (multiple) top draft picks are in anyway reasonable estimates of trade value and, in my view, reflect more of the historical the Daniher name 'brand-value' rather than reality.
My take is that here's a player that has very serious ongoing, unresolved, injury problems. While all are hopeful these issued will be sorted soon, reality is that Daniher is a player who's played f-all in the last two years; wont have a complete and full strength pre-season this year; will need to be injury-managed in terms of game time next year (when he becomes fit to play); and will be a free agent in 2021.
So what is a reasonable and fair price to pay for the above for the 2020 season alone, when (if not traded now) he will leave the 'dons in 2021 anyway and will cost nothing at that point?
Im thinking it certainly insnt a round one pick, as for the 'dons its really a charity trade to get the deal done and get 'something' now, while not really losing much anyway, given he wont play much in 2020 and regardless will be gone for nothing in 2021. And for the Swans they are not adding much 'net'-capability (given the return of rucks/Buddy will free up Reid to return as a full time tall leading forward), picking taking up list space with an not fully fit player in 2020 that would otherwise be 'free' in 2021.
I honestly see the Swans in a position where they can say to the dons, this is all you get, take it and be fair to your player who wants out.
Maybe a deep round two pick at best??Comment

Doc Larkins on Trade Radio pretty much said Joe Daniher is a huge risk to play again at his former level, if at all, and wouldn't recommend any club trading for him. If his OP is still a problem after surgery, he's unlikely to gain full fitness. If he were okay, then Essendon would have a big contract extension in front him, but we don't see that, do we? I think they would love to offload him to any sucker that comes along, before everyone discovers next year that he can't play.
HPN says Daniher is worth a pick 27, or about our 2nd round pick. But after hearing Larkins, I wouldn't even give that for him. Let him play next year and prove what he can do. We are not in a position to give away top 10 picks for such a risky player acquisition. Harley Bennell sounds a better option and comes at a better price.
That should cancel the Papley hypothetical trade.
I wouldn't be giving away Cameron or Jones so fast either, but open to see the trade offer. Let's promise Cameron a half dozen games at the start of next season, fitness permitting. It's a better offer than competing with Maxon Cox for #2 ruckman.Comment

Being part of the "Go Away" generation, I can still barely look at Anthony Rocca (and he's hard to miss) on the Collingwood
bench these days. Maybe we should hire some of the Trade Radio callers to assist Beatson. I'm sure he'd love to get their
input.Comment
