    Good post, Steve.

My latest thought: Daniher should retire and, then, if he's up for it, make a comeback with us after next season. This is our dream scenario. Would cost us nothing. We don't need him next year. And he could have a year getting himself right mentally and physically and deciding if he wants to keep playing footy. And EFC would get nothing. It's perfect.

Jones; he was fishing with Heeney and Bell yesterday having a good time. If he was intent on leaving you would think his time off might be spent in Melbourne chasing offers and doing medicals.

It feels like the most unsettling and not spoken issue is that we are looking at supposedly JD and loosing Jones and or Paps

For a team coming 15th on the table and having 4 significant retirees in 2019 and a super young team you would think we should not be loosing any key player and only adding new key players

I think that a lot of the talk emanating in the past 24 hours about what we might have to give up for Daniher, reflects an Essendon wish list perspective rather than a more balanced view. The Swans have been deliberately silent throughout. I sincerely doubt that the Swans will do a deal that reflects paying over the odds for him. They obviously want him but not at any price. The Bombers are outraged that a contracted player would dare to ask for a trade. Reality will set in across the trade week when they ponder the possibility of Daniher leaving next year for next to nothing.

Did no one see this yesterday?

Contracted Swans forward picks Blues over Roos - AFL.com.au

              .....which contained this:

"However, AFL.com.au understands the Swans intend to hold Papley, who is contracted until 2023, to his existing deal in the Harbour City."

              He's staying......simple as that.

My read on Jones is that St Kilda have made him an attractive offer, without currently having the means to get a deal done (trade and salary cap wise).

They are relying on a combination of:

                - getting something back in the trade for Brad Hill in exchange for their first pick

                - Jack Steven going to Geelong (cap space and a draft pick back)

                - trading out players like Carlisle and maybe Bruce (more for cap space but maybe a steak knives pick to pass on as well)

If those things happen they can fulfil what they’ve offered Jones, and have something to at least talk to Sydney about re: a trade.

If we can get a decent trade I’d just do it - he’s a guy who’ll never be more than a 10-22 best player in your side (probably 15+ in a really good team), and has shown he’ll always run his contracts to the death seeking something better. If he re-signs I’ve got no doubt he’d test FA when it comes around anyway.

He’s not the sort of player to over pay for, and it sounds like that’s been our position - offer a reasonable but not excessive contract, and if that’s not enough, then fine you can go.

                  The pressure is on Danniher
He has a 1 yr deal and plays for a club that doesnt have a big offer on the table for him.
                  He will want to move
He wont want to start next year playing for a contract
                  Too much to lose
This could help us with a $$ deal for him if he wants to come and maybe at the trade table when its reported he is owed 900k

If he goes, so be it but he gives us hardness, speed and a mature body. He is a good AFL player and I'd be pleased if he stayed. Toughness is underrated these days.

There's a small paragraph in one of the Herald Sun articles which says that Richmond have spoken to Jones's management and are ready to pounce if the Swans and Saints cannot come to a trade.

Richmond would likely offer the end of 1st round compo pick they get for Ellis. It wouldn't be far off the mark and a good pick up for Richmond.

                          2019 Review: Robbie Fox - sydneyswans.com.au

Guessing Robbie is definitely staying for 2020 turning 27yrs of age next season

Has played half the games both years in a row and will no doubt get another 12 games plus in 2020

Anyone with the season review u would hazard to guess is staying and especially the way Kennelly described his importance for our squad as a third tall down back

Useful player - tough and quick. Better down back.

Aside from all the Paps , Jones and JD talk , any word on us getting a ruckman ? One that actually plays ruck as first position and can actually get on the park I mean .

Heard plenty of names getting thrown around in the ruck merry go round , haven’t heard us mentioned in connection with any. Other than Cameron’s, as looking to leave the swans . Is it just me or does that leave our ruck cupboard pretty bare ?

Fox was really solid as a small defender toward the end of the season. What a great help it would be if he could hold down a spot in the backline next year. It would effectively add another midfielder to our list.
