Ludwig, I'll have a 1000 baht with you that Melican is not in our best 22 in 2021.

Reid is settled with a family in Sydney and not going anywhere. I wouldn't do a straight swap of players for McCartin. All things considered, injury, age, free agency, McCartin is more value than Daniher. That doesn't mean he's a better player, but just a better value.
If it turns out with us giving picks 5 and 25 plus Hayden McLean, I would think it's a fair deal, even on the generous side. I think Essendon should be very happy with that. Anything more and I'd feel we got rolled.

Risky bet Nico. The way I'm going, I may not be around in 2021 to pay off.Comment

I hope the Daniher trade does not go through - if only to see the tack the Melbourne oriented press take.
Option 1: Swans blow it - deserve a D-
Option 2: Dodoro finally fails by asking too much - earn a C-Comment

All Essendon are doing by making ridiculous trade offers and baiting the media with them is ensuring that they have a lot of egg on their faces if the Swans do not make the trade and then wait 12 months to make an offer when Daniher is a RFA.
Daniher has played 11 games in two years. He's got maybe a 50% chance of playing 100 more games. Essendon are still trying to trade him as if it's 2017.
Season averages
2013: 5 games, 3 goals. Average 0.60 goals per game.
2014: 21 games, 28 goals. Average 1.33 goals per game.
2015: 22 games, 34 goals. Average 1.55 goals per game.
2016: 22 games, 43 goals. Average 1.95 goals per game.
2017: 23 games, 65 goals. Average 2.83 goals per game.
2018: 7 games, 8 goals. Average 1.14 goals per game.
2019: 4 games, 7 goals. Average 1.75 goals per game.
It's pretty clear that he's not returned to form since his injury (which he may have started the 2018 season with). He should prove his fitness with another season. If he can play 22 games next year with 50 goals or more, then we can talk about offering what Essendon's been asking.
We don't have to make the trade. He's not filling a need. Essendon needs to remember this."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Agree its alot for Carlton to give but so is a 4th B&F 24yr old with a favourable 4yr deal
Phillips and 9 for Essendon is plenty for an injured Danniher on the brink of Free agency
Tell Essendon that is the offer, dont include any player that hasnt requested a trade, the ball is Carltons court.Comment

The Buddy Franklin deal was a year in the making. We didn't try to get him from Hawthorn in 2012, but rather waited until he was a free agent. If we had discussions with Daniher, and he was interested incoming to the Swans, then we should have orchestrated something where he comes to the Swans in 2020 as a free agent. We knew quite well what Dodo would put us through. How did we fall into this trap?Comment

Re: Daniher, the worst possible outcome for the Swans is trading the farm for him (5 + 9 or more) and being stuck with another Tippet.
I think walking away is a lower risk option, as if he plays stays with Essendon and comes good, we can always either (a) go for him as an RFA or (b) argue he wasn't worth the price/didn't meet our needs, even if we do have another poor result.
Regardless of whether the trade goes through, there will be endless speculation as to who the "winner" was. The media and should sponsor players to request trades - it's like buying content.Comment

It's reached a stage of being ridiculous. Pick 5 and Heeney/Blakey for a hack like Daniher?? Essendon must be smoking something illegal. I say forget him and let him play at Essendon next year, disgruntled and upset with the Melbourne football bubble. He will do wonders for the team moral. Dodoro, Remember we did not chase Daniher he chased the Swans.

However, if we are considering offering anything of value for Daniher this year, rather than waiting a year, we are also on it.Comment

This is exactly what I've been wondering.....it makes no sense to go about it this way, this year. It made complete sense (and should have for Daniher as well) to wait a year and waltz up to Sydney as a free agent. It shows a lack of common sense and logic from both parties.....this is very confusing for Swans fans who have come to expect measured and sensible decisions from their club.Comment

I can't see things ending well from here. Danaher has frozen our trade period. Ludicrous demands for Heeney or Blakey. It seems we capitulate and pay overs or procrastinate and lose out on other deals. I feel it is important that they publically walk away at this stage. My suspicion and fear is that Harley feels compelled by some personal assurance he made to TD. Maybe Essendon know this.He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.Comment
