I agree with the general point, but I think the comment would raise less consternation if you just removed ‘Melbourne’ from the point you are making. There has been plenty of criticism of sports journalism all over the world. The way some players talk about the AFL media in Adelaide and Perth would suggest that it is not simply a ‘Melbourne’ thing.Last edited by Matty10; 3 July 2019, 09:04 PM.Comment

Longmire is not perfect and was in a no win situation. Fair enough to a degree about my Melbourne reference but living in Melbourne as a Swans fan I find highlights the trivia and nonsense written about the Victorian club's. Guess I get annoyed when it happens with the Swans. Happy living here. Footy not the be all and end all. Not talking about you, but some people get very defensive when Melbourne is criticised.Comment

Only my opinion that Pies, Bombers, Tigers etc have a lot of these types of fansComment

How can John respond candidly with any of these ridiculous questions from extremely annoying journos that have no clear answer at the moment because he simply has no freakin idea what the Swans will be offering in their next contract extension.
He’s better off saying “Next Question?” whenever he’s asked about it.Comment

It wreaks of either;
1) Longmire trying to push his price up or
2) Longmire trying to create friction between him and the club so that he is released from his contract.
I see no other reason for it.Comment

He should be responding in the same way that Clarko and Simpson have. I don't think that is too much to ask.

Or maybe he hasn't actually received a firm offer yet from North. Or a firm offer of a new contract from the Swans, so doesn't yet have the information he needs to make a decision.
Or maybe he is strongly tempted by a move to North but is keeping an eye on what Shaw is doing there, with the 2002 memories of Roos and Wallace firmly at the front of his mind.
Or maybe he's close to finalising a new contract with the Swans but is firmly aware of the Swans' mantra of not discussing contracts in the media.
There are any number of ways the situation could play out. He might leave or he might stay. If he leaves I'll be disappointed but the sun will still come up the next day. A new coach will be found. One thing I'm absolutely sure of is that it will do the Swans (or the Roos) absolutely no good for him to come out now and say publicly that he will be coaching North next season.Comment
