Jones wanted to go, was probably worth what he is getting paid but more than happy to get Elijah.

But as a rule, you dont want to be losing 24yr olds, would have been good to know, that after 5yrs, whether or not he was a midfielder though.

Was always erratic by foot but was the only one breaking lines in a sh8t game plan that had few forward of the ball. Hard to hit a non target.
Also not forgetting he was a meat head tough guy that hurt the team more often than not

I wouldn't be trading either Papley or Hewett. We don't need draft picks, so what would get for them? Even with so many senior players out, we still can't get a lot of our recent draft picks into games. We are going to add 2 quality academy players for next season. We need someone under 25yo to share the ruck load going forward. One of those that I have mentioned as a forward/ruck target, Sam Skinner, will be playing for Brisbane Friday. I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes.

You have mentioned Noah Bolta a few times oh wise one, but after last night he isn't going anywhere. And he is only 21, what a talent.

I have been thinking about our midfield for a long time, but have been reluctant to voice my heresies. I think that we have been held back for a few years by our respect, regard for, and loyalty to, a handful of midfielders who have often been terrific, and occasionally game breakers, but have yielded both a rather one-paced midfield, and blocked opportunities for others. (Of course, I also think that the ruck situation has been part of this: against Adelaide having Naismith seemed to add a metre of pace to Parker.)

Watching Jones at work against Port was more troubling for me than watching Mitchell running around for the Hawks. I understand that there is a transition that has to be managed, but I can't see room, even in the short term, for four in and unders like Kennedy, Parker, Hewitt, and Rowbottom in the same 22, let alone thinking about Warner, or allowing the opportunity for players like Florent, Mills, hopefully Bell, starting in the middle and adding a bit of flair and threat. For these reasons, and as much as I like Hewitt, I think that he would be a great trade-out.

I liked what I saw of Ling on the weekend, and the goals that came from some run and precise kicking out of defence—Lloyd was better than he has been for a while, Aliir broke some lines and hit up team-mates nicely, and Dawson seemed composed, and has great vision.

Bolta was one of my favourites from the Draft. I would have been happy if we took him instead of Ling. I've stopped talking about him, because I know he's untouchable, especially since he's playing in Rance's spot.

Parker is the one I would like to see play a lot more forward. He is a strong mark and decent kick for goal.

Is Rowbottom slow? From what I've seen I'd have thought he's quicker than average.
And while I'm hoping to see the Mills in the middle experiment continue for the rest of the year - he definitely ain't no speed demon.
James Bell is also certainly worth giving time in the middle to, I think I described him as an unsung hero of the Hawks game.

So I too kind of get what you're saying. I think we are all enjoying the injection of pace into the side. But I think we shouldn't lose sight of the need for contested possession beasts as well.

As for a potential George trade, I'd say this
1) He has the makings of a contested possession beast himself, JPK isn't going to last forever, and I see no successor.
2) He's also our only capable contested-beast-stoppper/tagger (Clark is better tagging endurance/outside players)
3) Next, what do you imagine we'd get for him? I doubt it'd be a first rounder
4) And finally, this years draft is likely to be more lotto-like than any draft in years - therefore it's a much less sure investment that usual.

So on balance I'd rather keep Hewett due to the need to mix some bigger mature bodies with youth coming through.

My query at the end of the year is what bid comes for Campbell. Ideally, we'd have a shot at someone else first as a high pick, then him, then Gulden. But I reckon we may have walked out of last year's trade period with one too few draft picks for this year.

If we want someone before Campbell, and Campbell is top 10, as most suggest, and Gulden around the 20-25 mark, do we have enough points - or do we need to give away a mid-tier player to get them and get more serious young talent in?
