I agree with this. Particularly the last paragraph. I am open to trading for a ready made player, like Matt Crouch if we thought he was what we need (but I think pick 2 would be slight overs for him), and so I would consider splitting the pick to make a trade for an A grader like that happen.

I don't agree Papley will go if he's desperate. He can't. He's contracted. The only way he could go without our consent is by retiring. That isn't remotely likely so I don't think he could even credibly threaten that.
Last time around the club weren't convinced about his motives for leaving. They didn't buy that the family reasons were the whole story. Unless that changes I strongly hope they don't change our approach either. All opinions are not equal. After the first round the discount is a fixed 197 points so if Gulden doesn't get bid on until say 30 the deficit won't be much.
A no brainer we take pick 2, Campbell and Gulden, the latter two we know so much about in a draft where more than half the players won't have any 2020 form.
Can no one on this forum ever mention Matt Crouch again, ever! He is a slow stat padder with poor disposal and poor vision. Suggest you visit the Big Footy Crows forum to see that 95% of their supporters want him to leave, they'll give him away. Don't mention his name again, please.Comment

I agree about not connecting the two players.

Touted as a first rounder Draft Central Power Rankings: July 2020 - Aussie Rules Draft Central “He’s your modern, AFL-style ruckman who can rack up 25 possessions.’’ Torrens University Draft Target - Riley Thilthorpe - SANFL
He's played six SANFL seniors games this season, the most recent as first ruck for West Adelaide (the Bloods).
In that game he got monstered by the SANFL's leading tap ruckman - at this stage of his development he'd normally only be doing the chop out job.
He'll certainly not be ready for 1st ruck in the AFL for a couple of years - so suggest we should pick up Nanny to tide us over as the Tiges seemed to prefer Soldo even before Nanny did an ankle). As Nanny is also out of contract I think, so he may come cheap? - (we still need Campbell and Errol, my favourite ressies Oompa Loompa) - and Nanny's only about to turn 26.
And while Thilithorpe is developing, he'll spend time forward. A Blakey, McCartin, Thilthorpe key forward contingent spearheading the 2023 flag challenge sounds nice.Comment

On the topic of rucks, this article is really interesting: iview . Pity they don't explain better how Grundy and Gawn could be better used at the end. How does this inform which rucks we might wish to target?Listen All opinions are not equal. Video up today of Cal Twomey speaking on the AFL site about the upcoming draft. Along with Campbell and Gulden he also mentions Marco Rossman as one from the swans academy that we might look at. Twomey didn’t offer too much info up, from a glance at Rossmans’s bio he appears to be a 180cm mid who can win the footy, break away from a stoppage and hit the scoreboard. Any academy watchers know much more about Rossman and whether he might be worth picking up as well ? I guess the concern would be he’s another smaller midfielder and were already likely to take two before him...

That's assuming we don't do any pick trading and that's unlikely. More likely, we end up trading in a few later picks. Offering up pick 21 and a future second or third rounder for three or four later picks would be well worth it to protect next year's first round pick.
I agree this year's draft will be very tricky. Not only would it be more of a lucky dip this year than usual, more players are tied to clubs."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

From AFL website article on Carlton:
‘Sydney star Tom Papley asked to be traded to Carlton last year but was denied his request by the Swans, who couldn't prise contracted forward Joe Daniher from Essendon. A number of Victorian clubs are set to ask the question again of Papley as he enjoys a career-best season, but Liddle couldn't be drawn on the Blues making another pitch.’

Paps again heavily involved in the swans debutant reveal for Wicks ( enjoying these this year, this was probably my favourite one though, ET one pretty good too ) . I can’t see Paps leaving, he’s the kings of the kids! Who knows how it will pan out but you can’t say he looks to be unhappy at the club .

With Ben Brown now being the latest media trade speculation (particularly on SEN), i'm hypothesizing whether a swap with Joe Daniher would be fair and beneficial for both North & Essendon? They're both RFAs with Ben now also having to battle knee injury. If this were to take place, my understanding of the rules is neither club would receive a compensation pick because you don't receive one if you also trade in a RFA in the same year? Most unlikely trade anyhow.Comment
