9 more wins one year to the next, 21st century:

    Adelaide: 2004=8, 2005=17. 2011=7, 2012=17.
    Brisbane Lions: 2018=5, 2019=16.
    Collingwood: 2005=5, 2006=14.
    Melbourne: 2003=5, 2004=14.
    West Coast: 2010=4, 2011=17.

It's more common to see a side win about five or six extra games a year and climb the ladder more slowly as their players improve.

https://www.draftguru.com.au/picks/3 - this lists all the historical draft #3 since 1981, There have been many super stars including Chris Judd and Dustin Martin. A recent trade involving pick 3 was " the Lions handed over picks No.2, 31, 51 and 60 in exchange for pick No.3 and No.16 from GWS in the 2016 Draft." It ended up #2 was Tim Taranto and #3 was Hugh McCluggage. Not sure if there were any direct swaps of pick 3 for one single established player.

        fascinating TS

Thats a lot less frequent than expected

Its taken 8yrs..... since a team "bounced" 10 plus wins from one season to the next

ie 5 wins to 16 wins like the Lions did and from memory Brisbane were given some priority picks somewhere along the way?

I read that GWS are holding firm on Jeremy Cameron offer of 5 years at 700k/pa. That sounds like an offer we could push a bit, maybe up to 800k. I'm sure there will be others. I wasn't impressed with Cameron this year. Not at all. I'm not a fan of his on field personality either. But at his best, he is one of the best key forwards in the game. I would prefer Cameron to Daniher.

I wouldn't mind taking a crack at Will Papley. Maybe with our rookie pick. We just have to see how many spots we have open after the trade period. It would violate my own arguments on the draft this year, but I'll make an exception for Tom's brother.

I could be interesting if we added both a McCartin and a Papley to the list this year.

Agreed we can spare a rookie list spot for each

Priority pick 19 was the only one they got.

Don't mess with pick 3 unless it's on draft night because a club puts in a vexatious bid on Campbell. Take best available at pick 3, then move on to Campbell, Gulden and Papley Jnr :-)

Traded to Port Adelaide, traded to Sydney, became pick 21 and we used it to recruit Will Hayward.

He was excellent tonight! Was also his 6th game in 3 years...

On that though, we dumped his salary and Rohan’s, even with Buddy we must have some space. The talk at the time was of a war chest.

Saints trade rebuild so far has a nice trajectory. Making the finals 6th on the ladder then winning week 1 of the finals........after only one win more then us in 2019

You would guess that if there is any player that we would like trade for they would most likely be in the top8 teams who will be struggling to keep all their players.

Moore at the Pies must be moving towards a significant upgrade?

in 2018 when pre-agents Dylan Shiel, Lachie Neale, Steven May and Chad Wingard moved clubs, they are more active participants of the off-season than the free agents.

Zach Merrett as someone mentioned ie 27 disposals a game and an elite kick.......25yrs of age? .....contract finishes 2021 then FA etc

Who would you move on to have a player like Zach come on board?

Would Buddy move back to Melb to finish off with a club in a finals window for 2021? ie we pay half his sal of $700k next two years and then use the remaining $6-700K to bring on board an elite midfielder ?

Merrett has no defensive side, so wouldn't work for us AND you'd be dealing with the Dodo.

sounds like you maybe right 707........it is low odds we manufacture something unexpected...... but we do tend to when needed

I couldnt believe that Lachie Neale went to brisbane ....

I was absolutely stumped that Bud wanted to leave the Hawks and come to the Swans and further more the Swans wanted to do a 9 year deal !

As much as i would be disappointed for this to happen, it is good logic and worth exploring for a player like Merrett. A pity he plays for Essendon

This is from the AFL website article posted today:

"Out of contract: Joel Amartey, Zac Foot, Robbie Fox, Michael Knoll, Matthew Ling, Jack Maibaum, Hayden McLean, Lewis Melican, Harry Reynolds, Ben Ronke, Brady Rowles, Ryley Stoddart, Jackson Thurlow, Sam Wicks

Intimates that Melican and Ronke are the 2 that could be on the trade table, and I agree. Ling and Stoddart are likely to be resigned.

Maybe we could move up to pick 2 by offering both Melican and Ronke NM to move up one place and perhaps get a bit of points post round 2. North are likely to get some picks in this range for players they have on the market.

I reiterate, that I think we should limit our trade targets to KPFs and ruckmen.

Need to find depth to assist Kennedy and Parker – Rowbottom huge find
