I see getting an experienced ruck as a priority and while I would not advocate giving up pick 3 clearly we are going to have to give up something to get what we need. Obviously the draft is not the answer to this problem. Any ideas of who we have in mind as I can't see our next flag coming until this is sorted.
A few on here ( me included ) are keen on Preuss from the demons. There are other interested clubs though. Hickey from West coast has been mentioned but I don’t think he’s much of an upgrade on Sinclair to be honest. I’m sure there are others out there that aren’t getting opportunity at senior level, hopefully our recruiters are doing their homework

It's a bit scary especially if they win the comp this year and then add Daniher. Winning the flag would be such a coup for them after being so far in the doldrums 5 or so years ago!
I think we may have been serious last year about getting Daniher as a RFA this year. I don't think we wanted to get him then. I suspect the deal was meant to happen this year (a la Buddy) and JD jumped the gun. At least we don't to deal with the Dodo.

When I heard this news re: JD today (and it has been rumored for a few days), I was very relieved. He's a crock....that used to be a gun. He showed that he can be a gun again this season but then had a shocker the next week and didn't play the last few rounds. An expensive liability. I don't get the Lions.....

Yeah but I don’t think we want to do that. Next years draft is a good one (apparently) and we are more likely to be in the market for trading for experienced players next year than this. I reckon they still haven’t given up on Naismith either, so they will go for a stop gap/experiment this year. Surely Vardy is more gettable than Hickey. He is uncontracted.

I think that’s right. Brisbane surely see that too. So watch them offer unders and then Dodoro match the offer just to be tool. Then Daniher retires for a year and make a comeback in 2022.

I'm quite relieved too. We don't need another player who potentially would have been an expensive liability. Especially following Tippett, Buddy, Reid and Naismith. Granted Buddy has given the club great service, I love him as a player when fit and has brought other positives to us. Reid is a year on, year off injured type player imo. Tippett gave us patches and Naismith should retire as he can't get on the park at all it seems. I'd much prefer we focus on the rebuild at the draft this year, retain our young brigade and add a 2nd tier ruckman if we can.

But if we need a ruckman now then what’s the difference? If one is available that we like now, why wait until next year when we may have to trade that exact same pick anyway?

Hickey is a hick... he is NOT an improvement on Sinclair. A very average rick at best. I can only think that the Swans would consider drafting him if he is cheap. Otherwise Swans please don't bother. He is very average at best and would much prefer Sydney target someone else at who is younger and has more upside than Hickey. SURELY NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Based on precedent Brisbane will then be given a trade ban. [emoji35]

I'm sort of happy we've had this year, has shaken that rotten AFL organisation about. Like the fact that the AFLPA are sticking it to them on list sizes and TPP although we're yet to see the final outcome.

I have been on about how bad we are out of the centre since 2007.

You can't be serious that you are happy about the circumstances of this year shaking up the AFL organisation. Plenty of people in the organisation, including clubs, have and will find themselves out of a job. Every clubs finances have been seriously impacted to the degree that some clubs viability will be seriously threatened over the coming few years. I can understand your frustration at some decisions from the top that has impacted our club but please have a broader perspective.

I agree. I would prefer that we target a younger ruck prospect from another AFL club. Someone like Sam Hayes from Pt Adelaide, a 21yo ,203cm ,101kg who is currently not in their best 22. They have a young Ladhams who is likely to be leading their ruck for the foreseeable future. My ears pricked when Ollie Wines was interviewed post game on the weekend and they were talking about centre clearances and the ruck work. Ollie praised his ruckman on the day and then volunteered that we have another in Sam Hayes who is going to be a star. I googled Sam Hayes and found in his junior draft years that he was a dual Under 18 All Australian. This is the type I prefer and could get as a bargain.
