Which is the lesser evil for the Lions: (1) to commit enough $ in the contract to an injury prone player like JD to get pick 8 as compo (and maybe avoid having to trade) (2) to have to give up both their first round picks (17 and 18) but have a less risky contract or (3) to take their chances in the PSD.
I think it’s 3. They’re in a prelim, every chance they make the Gf at least. Why bend over for an injury prone JD ? I think getting a solid type tall forward to complement Hipwood would be enough, they may not even need that.

SEN reporting now that Saad is so desperate to get out of the Bombers that he is prepared to follow Martin's footsteps and enter the draft. If there is any truth to this then the rot seems to run deep in Bomberland! But we already knew that, didn't we.

latter years of that contract. You'd imagine that thinking may have changed of late and probably even before Covid
          came along.
So far we've got 5 1/2 years of footy out of Buddy. He may not play again. He may, but his best years are behind
him. So does the club really want to be paying a banged up Jeremy Cameron $1M a year when he is 33? He will be
good for a couple years then he'll start falling away. They all do. And as for Joe Daniher... it's hard to tell if he
even wants to play football anymore.
There is some merit to what you say but at some point I'd love to watch a Swans team capable of kicking more than 5 goals a game - a quality tall forward will likely be a critical element of this I suspect.

Tiges just dropped Chol. Might be a good time to put in a sneaky offer.

A Chol / Allir ruck forward combo would be interesting. Not necessarily great for taps but in terms of athleticism , clearances etc. around the ball. Chol is a good kick too. Allir is an unknown forward largely but has shown glimpses when tried there ( which is hardly at all ).

Something really smells at Essendon. You don't have so many players leaving without there being a problem.

If true and he pushed back on instructions on playing a role, i wouldn't want him at the club. The problem at Essendon seems to be that they are bunch of entitled individualistic players who want what is best for them and want the club to accommodate it. My observation is that the cultural rot is in the playing group not the club and that essendon should move on any players not vested in a team / club first ethic and use their draft picks to rebuild the playing group culture. If they don't do this they will be regretting it for years to come. I shudder to think of having such a culture at the swans.
Essendon has been run by a coterie of about 15 money men for years who have too much influence on the club. I would say it is cultural. If the coaches were so inflexible as to not try McKenna up forward then they have the wrong coach. He was a good enough player in the back line and they struggled to kick goals. Sometimes it is good to allow a player to fail. Both Hooker and Hurley are unhappy, stalwarts of the club. The fish rots from the head first.

Good, this strategy has failed for them all along the line. They still over rate a list that falls away in the second half of the season. Happy for them to recruit their way to the bottom again. Did Saad help the injectors up the ladder, nup. Cripps holds this club together.

As I've said before, my preference would be to find a forward who competes, runs hard, crashes packs and brings the ball to ground. In Papley, we have our own version of Charlie Cameron who is the Lions number one forward threat. A committed tall would elevate Papley to the next level, along with our other small / mediums. Of those available, I really like Brodie Mihocek. He fits the brief perfectly and wouldn't necessarily cost the earth (although we would have to deal with the Pies).
Why would he leave the Pies?

Agree, he is an ageing midfielder from the bottom side. Adelaide improved because Sloan came back after injury. 2nd round compo only.

Chol is 200cm, whereas AA is about 5cm shorter. He’s got a fair bit of talent but that doesn’t mean he’s the answer.

If he is cheap he’d be a better option than most of the others in our ruck department.

I think Gulden is shaping as going much earlier than 2nd round. He is tough, plays above his weight and is a good user of the ball. I think he would be the sort of midfielder I would pick if I was a club on the rebuild. Unfortunately Essendon, Hawks, North and Crows are at this point..................

He will then go to free agency (no trade required). If that falls down he's in the Pre season draft. North won't pick him. They are after youth. And Adelaide won't because he's to risky. Then its us. PSD takes Brisbane out of the picture.

Essendon must also need a ruckman as well with Bellchabers retiring and McKernan and Daniher moving out. They have Draper who is very promising but injury prone and young and then what, maybe Stewart.

If we are into Hickey we are really going bargain basement as a stopgap. Does not spell well for Knoll, McLean or even Amartey. Would much prefer Sam Hayes from Port who is behind Ladhams but he might be hard to get.
Preuss would be a good get and is the exact age demographic for a ruckman we need.

He's originally from Townsville and was drafted from Southport, so he has that physicality of ex-league players. Reminds me of Mumford in terms of his presence. They're my favourite type of ruckman.
The eternal connundrum "what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object" was finally solved when David Hasselhoff punched himself in the face.
