What about Ratugolea from the Cats? He's young, can play in the ruck, is omitted from the Cats' final series, is out of contract and was born in NSW. I'd play him over Sinkers at centre bounces.

We just moved to Pick 5 in the draft.
Saints likely to offer a 5yr $700k+ deal to Brad Crouch, which gives them Pick 2 as compo.Comment

Was always a worry that a desperate club would over pay for Brad Crouch. FA stuffing up the draft some more. Who knows how far the first round will go now, with the GC assistance pick 11 the first round was already 19 picks, 20 with Crouch compo, 21 with Williams compo, possibly 22 with Daniher compo unless Dodo does his usual, thankfully Cameron will be forced into a trade. Is Corr still going to the quagmire at Norf, they might stump up big dollars, now 23 picks and counting :-(Comment

This year, six clubs conceded more points than Sydney, and the Skilton medal was won by a defender.
Had we scored two goals more in each game, we would have beaten Essendon, Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton and Geelong and made the finals in 8th with 10 wins.
We will need to recruit a tall forward and a ruckman (this can be the same player but one of each is better). Letting Aliir go would mean we may need to pick up a third tall from somewhere (but again can be a versatile tall). We should try to hold on to Aliir or drive a hard bargain at the trade table."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Yet when we picked up a couple of Academy players relatively cheaply, the AFL immediately changed the rules to make this harder with a points system. A similar points system needs to be added to free agency."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

Is that your assessment for compensation or a guess? Similar offers for Cameron and Daniher have apparently only indicated end of first round picks. Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.Comment

Our defence wasn't the problem this year. It was our lack of scoring from a makeshift forward line, losing a few close games and fielding an inexperienced side.

a couple other comments:
One of the most fascinating areas to analyse in sports is the opportunity cost ........how do teams or indv sports try to minimise the scoreboard hurt factor
- in Tennis if you are not a top 10 player you will most likely play thru the middle and minimise court angle ie less hurt potential........wider the court the more angle to execute a winner
- same in squash
The opportunity cost is that a defensive approach thru the middle tends to minimise you opportunities to get on the offence and therefore you have to make your opportunity count at a very high percentage
when coaching 360 degree games:
- the fight for controlling a game is also a classic to observe also
- Clarkson for many years did this via an uncontested style of high possession footy much like a top level skill full soccer team. When we have the ball you dont, therefore you cant apply scoreboard hurt without the ball
- At the Swans over the years, we tended to stack that back and then slingshot which was great as a club to always be in the hunt and also great for bud to have a big paddock to roam in
- The Tigers tended to go the other way more like a high pressure soccer team forcing teams to move the ball towards the edges of their defensive arc then pounce in numbers and rebound hard via very quick HFF, mids that won their one on ones
- NOW at the SWANS we appear to have started have become much more flexible in our approach re control......our balance between uncontested footy and contested footy as our way of controlling the game and our switching between high pressure, low pressure (zoning) has been fascinating to observe.
- At this stage we tend to be hard to score against because we tend to stay heavy on the defensive side of the ball as a default yet that makes it hard for us to get loose and get ahead of an opposition defence to score
- what if we had some more of those speedy breakaway mids / HFFs that can provide the outnumbering that hurts in attack
- Although our team has got faster I am not seeing a clear ability to break away like the top teams can from contests etc..........we lack this vs the top teams break ability week in week out"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Free agency is a joke because it is circumventing the equalisation policy. Cashed-up clubs can raid the lists of other clubs with little restriction and no net cost to themselves in draft position and the AFL isn't considering changes. Why is Geelong such a protected species?

Free Agency is fine, contracts are the issue
American sports model
Contract capped at a % of Salary based on years played, i.e. you cant pay a 3rd year player the same as a 7yr player
Terms of contracts go with the player, i.e. if a guys is on 500k under contract and is traded he stays on 500k so he cant be talked into requested a trade for more money
Listed player rights for free agents
i.e. If you have a guy on your list thats a free agent, you can offer him 5yrs, if he leaves he can only get a 4yr deal. Imagine what impact that would have on Cameron from GWSComment

Totally agree, backs up what I have heard from a couple of current players. NO to drafting him.Comment
