    Current picks: 3, 31, 34, 43, 60, 82. All can be considered points-bearing picks.

We're still about 300 points short, if Campbell is drafted at 8 and Gulden at 20. If Campbell is drafted at 13, there is enough points.

We've probably got some live pick trades ready to go if needed.

      Thanks M_B.

A couple of reasons for us to delay resigning some of the still uncontracted players:

      1. More vacant list spots allows us to count the points of more picks towards paying for Academy players.

      2. We might want to move a couple of them to the rookie list if we give them another contract e.g. Foot, Ronke.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

I calculate 228 short with your picks, 8 and 20, but the value of our picks will change. It's too complicated to figure out if the value will go up or down with multiple picks being used to high end NGA etc matched bids. The cushion before dropping a spot from pick 9, for example, is 73 points, so that would get us down to 155, or pick 59, which we might be able to acquire with our future 4th rounder.

In any case, I don't see us dropping more than 1 or 2 spots next year. Not catastrophic.

Ahh, that's better; for a while there, I thought you was trying to take over Liz's role as the voice of reason.

I'm actually quite pleased with our trading, so far. While Aliir might play a few spectacular games for Port, that will have people screaming that we shouldn't have let him go, and conversely, Hickey may play a few that will have some people mourning his arrival, I genuinely think that it's been sensible needs based recruiting. This year, we once again had problems with our ruck depth, but our defence was where we were the strongest. So, although I liked Aliir as a player and while Hickey is unlikely to show the same level of attacking flair, I am pleased that we'll get a strong physical presence in the centre, who will get a few more clean taps to our mids.

Of course, the other main deficiency on our list is key forward (assuming that Buddy doesn't return to his glory days). So, I'm also pleased, that with the pick swaps, we seem to be pursuing a strategy to use pick 3 before the academy bids. If we can get one of the gun KPFs, while going into only minimal deficit, I'll be very happy with our trading period.

A late trade of one of our fringe players, for more points, would make me even happier.

As our academy picks get pushed down by father/sons or NGA rorts, the less in net terms we need to pay, since the value of a one position drop of a high pick far outweighs a one position drop of a low position pick we use to ‘fund’ it. If we’re lucky, our ‘funding’ picks won’t move much, as other club’s picks above us will be liquidated in payment for their own f/s, academy etc.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

I shouldn't think so. I think gould will come in to fill the role aliir played as the intercepting back. Gould has a prodigious kick on him and is deceptively fast for a pudgy looking guy.

The AFL and the Players Association really do not have their @@@@ together about list sizes. This is an issue the AFL chose to continue to push back, deflect and avoid until the last possible moment. It was as though they were expecting almost a player revolt. They got a very measured reaction from the union. But the union have only just seen the final proposal. Why? When I read that the final proposal had only just gone to the Union last week I was astounded. The AFL Commission have had this for a month. I think the AFL have been extremely negligent in this matter. If this was a commercial workplace or even an NGO the thing would have been settled at a board Meeting one day, after consultation not before, and enacted the next day.

I prefer a melange of reason and madness. I'm just happy that Liz hasn't banned me, YET. I walk a very fine line. I noticed that I had some pics removed from a recent post. Maybe copyright infringement. Who knows? I'm only allowed 1 joke a day. I must have gone over the limit. Or maybe it wasn't funny enough.

Trading Aliir obviated the need to consider using pick 3 as part of a ruck recruit. Mason Cox could have worked out because Collingwood wanted to offload their 2021 1st rounder. I'm happy enough to go to the draft and take the best available. I suspect it will be Hollands, which is fine with me. We can pursue a forward next year.

We can wait until trade day to make up any point shortages. It gives us the flexibility to keep our 2021 4 rounder if not needed for points. There should be enough late picks available to swap on trade day. Adelaide have pick 56 as the sixth pick in the draft, for example.

I’m sorry to see Allir go as I will will miss his infectious smile and bubbly personality. His football however was a bit of a Jeckyll and Hyde inasmuch on his day he was mercurial in defence and on other days he was Bambi on ice!
                      Anyway, all the best Allir!

I hear that Campbell is likely to go at 7 (from a recruiter at another club) - if Essendon keep their picks not go trade into Dunkley. Dodoro likes him but is likely to go for Oliver Henry at 6 .. then Campbell with matching Lachie Jones as well. But time will tell

                          It balances out.

None of the NGA or F/S recruits in the first 30 or so places in the draft will be matched by a single pick (Collingwood's prospect being a possible exception). They will be matched by a fistful of later picks. All picks after those picks will move up one place for each pick extinguished, and then all picks move down one. The increase in value of later picks is significant enough that our pick 82 is likely to become a points-bearing pick (pick 73 or earlier).

I have seen rankings where Campbell is ranked at #6 or #7. I have used #8 in previous examples (from Draft Central's November list), but #7 is quite plausible.

Just out of interest, are there any high draft pick prospects in NEXT YEAR’S academy group?

While some of the commentary on here has been apocalyptic, I believe the club owes its fans way more explanation on what's going on with the list - we're being asked to show faith in the young brigade and stay true, only to watch it marched out the club for trivial return. That tests my faith and it clearly tests many others as well. The social media backlash to the AA deal has been extreme and the club finds itself in the very unusual position (for the Swans at least) of having to deal with great waves of discontent - I'm hoping (but not necessarily hopeful) for a more transparent response than we've been used to.
