Tanner will get targeted by Geelong later on if he is that good. Do we think we should draft or rate him over and above Elijah/Will given this fact? Or just take the best player available and rated by the list managers and not worry about go home factor.
It's a tough one. I think overall there has to be some weight given to the go home factor but it should only be part of the story. We need to have faith that our club and it's setup will be good enough to overcome this. I understand the anxiety attached to players from the Geelong area in particular but Rohan stayed for a long time and Tom Mc looks to be in for the long haul.

The biggest factor in stopping talent going is success. We need to start our climb back up next year.

      Draft best available
Go home factor is a silly game to play, I remember Freo were into LDU who went to North as he was a home risk, hasnt come on at all considering he was touted as the best in the class

They drafted Brayshaw and Cerra and have done alot better for it

Best player available has such a broad context

Best player available at 18yrs old or like a Nat Fyfe best player in 2 or 3 years because u sense their trajectory of improvement and the role they can play may accelerate past others in the draft

I suspect Stephens was this type of draftee

Plus his ability to handle living away from home as a boarder and his sanfl experience demonstrating how his slight body now can handle playing against men

Im at the point where im happy if we dont get a Ruck
Pick 3 should be a definitive Round 1 Selection, no question to play at least 18 games if healthy

Yes... best players to fit the list when we expect to contend and how the team may look seems the right way to go.
So within that context... we know that we need a KPF, KPD and a gun midfielder. But there is no specific prototype for each of them. If we do go for a midfielder with pick 3 given we have plethora of it and would add to list with Braeden and Errol, what prototype we would need say come 2022-23.

I reckon we need someone in the mould of Elliot Yeo. Bull, booming kick and relatively explosive. Or for that matter Dangerfield. But they don’t come very often.

I just listened to Kinnear Beatson on Road to the Draft and although I like hearing him speak, he really gives little away. Here is my analysis:

              1. He's not going to give anything away about our potential choice at pick 3. Last year he did a similar interview and didn't mention Stephens at all so I wouldn't read into it too much about his comments regarding Bruhn or his lack of comments on Wil Phillips. However, if I was to guess, it does seem we would prefer a tall as "they are strong this year" so maybe McDonald or DGB are most likely.

              2. I did think it was interesting, however, that he said that we are awaiting some medical reports back on Thilthorpe but they shouldn't affect our recruiting decision. Potentially, that rules him out. Surely if we were considering drafting him those medical reports would be crucial.

              3. Given that he said we wouldn't bid on Tom Green last year (and didn't) and would likely bid on JUH this year, I tend to believe him that we will make a bid if JUH gets to us.

              4. I reckon we are 90% chance of putting Paddy McCartin on our rookie list.

was Sam Gaden the player that KB didnt say who his name was that would most likely be picked in the draft ?

he went quiet on this.....but was firm we only will take 3 ?

Featuring interviews with some of the draft prospects, leading AFL recruiters and talent experts, Road to the Draft airs every week in the lead-up to the NAB AFL Draft

                Teams:

                U18 Sydney Swans Academy

DEF: Aiden Adams, Aidan Beveridge, Sam Eynaud, Max Geddes, Harry Maguire, Isaiah Olsen, Kye Pfrengle, Reed Van Huisstede

MID: Nick Brewer, Braeden Campbell, Errol Gulden, Pierce Roseby, Marc Sheather, Sam Thorne, Cooper Wilson, Taine Wright

FWD: Jackson Barling, Jacob Bauer, Oscar Bird, Oscar Davis, Kale Gabila, Marco Rossmann, Jackson Tikkeros, Noah Wood

                RUCK: Frane Babic, Sam Gaden
You also missed Lachlan McAndrew who came in late as Ruckman . He has rugby background and is very tall. Doubt they will draft him but maybe considered for rookie. I would be suprised if they took Gaden to be honest but not stunned. Of those above there are a number of under 19s, Gaden being one of those.

Bombers delisted Dylan Clarke who has a contract. How does that work?

I posted in another thread what the Trial Rules for 2nd tier competitions might mean.

Another complexity in considering what is needed for an effective game plan for 2022 and beyond.

I'm guessing the Bombers will have to make good on any difference between his current contract and any new contract (if lower), if he is re-drafted.

And if he isnt, they will have to pay out the remaining contract in full, just like any other employment contract.

And in both scenarios any payment from them above that would be included in their salary cap.

But thats just a wild guess, happy to be corrected.

That does make sense. Effectively they have the $ in their salary cap, but free up a spot on their primary list. Presumably we could do the same with some of our contracted players, if we really wanted to?

if say the Swans picked up Dylan Clarke as an example:

you would expect we have to pay the base amount that a rookie has to be paid and then any amount thereafter the bombers would have to pay the difference in his current contract ?

Pay him the $ owed for next year, which Bombers have plenty of, to free up a list spot

Elijah Hollands. You may get your wish.

There was a question about whether this could be done. But now we know it can. We can delist Sam Gray, for one, as one of our rookie list movements.

Don't rookie listed players get TPP discounts? Maybe we should delist Buddy and move him to the rookie list. No one will pick him up at his age and pay.

He can get picked up as a DFA at a contract he negotiates, which could be anything, maybe more years at a lower salary. This would supersede his current contract. Else, he waits to get picked up by the Essendon at his current contract.
