ludwig, if say the swans did pick up Dylan............and he has a contract with the bombers.......wouldnt the bombers be obliged to pay some of his new contract if the contract stays as is?

get your point re if he goes for a new contract amount and term etc

I don't think so. As a DFA, Dylan is free to negotiate whatever contract he likes. He either comes to an agreement or not. If he does, then he accepts that the Swans' contract replaces and voids his Essendon contract. Essendon is not part of the negotiation, like it would be in the case of a player trade, in which the existing contract is part of the negotiation. That's because the player and both clubs involved in the trade are part of the new deal. In the case of Dylan, it's only the player and the new club.

This should addidt with Salary concerns too, a bit if creative accounting, from the Salary Cap reduction

Players contracted beyond 2021 will have the opportunity to push up to five per cent of their salary into 2022 and 2023.

Lewis Jetta delisted. 31yo, do we get him back for a year or 2.

Delisted by the Injectors, no way do we take him.

No thanks, we've got plenty of HB options. Even Gulden and Campbell are potentials.

Rather take a punt on P. McCartin or Yung Papley

Jetta and Dawson one on either half back flank using their long accurate kicking out of defence I can only dream. But no I can’t see us getting him when we are so far off premiership contention

Jetta is probably defensively poor which exposes the other 5 players in defence a bit. But I dont think there is anyone as lethal as he is with ball in his hand. His vision is exceptional bar none. I wonder why Eagles delisted him.
Even though I would like 2 Jettas in our team, we are not likely to go down that path. We should rather teach those attributes. Maybe Brisbane can swap Alex Witherden with Jetta. Unfortunately their problem is that they have Daniel Rich who also lacks in defensive pressure and having 2 down back is not going to work - Hence they moved Alex on i guess. The obvious choice would be the Dad's army - Geelong. They can take another 31 year old. If they take him, I think they will win the premiership.

We have very good field kickers in our team now. Rampe, Buddy, Dawson, McInerney would rate elite in that category. Rowbottom, Stephens are all probably Above Average. Braeden Campbell added to the mix would make us very good kicking team.

What we lack is contested Marking for these kickers. If we get a couple of beasts who could mark the ball as well as Tom McCartin and Heeney we would do very well.

Picking up Dylan Clarke as a DFA means that we would be placing him on the Senior list where we do not have positions available. We could draft him on to the Rookie list if we wished where we do have free positions. Not suggesting we do either, in fact strongly against either option. The main point is that taking any player as a DFA means they go on the Senior list which means one more delisting of our current list. We should just take #3, Campbell and Gulden at the draft and then one or two rookies.

We are likely to be delisting some more players off our Senior list who may get a promise of being redrafted as a rookie. Ronke and Foot are possibilities. McLean and Wicks are already rookies. Delisting and redrafting them as a rookie only makes sense if the rule about being allowed only one third year rookie exists. With Amartey we would have three unless Amartey was promoted to the Senior list with his new contract.

Who knows what other changes have been made along with the list size changes. I would say the AFL has been making up changes on the run but at present it seems more like a slow walk.

Pick 3, Campbell, Gulden, rookie McCartin Snr & Papley Jnr - done

                              A handy haul

Sounds good! I wonder if they're also looking at Mason Wood given we were interested a few years ago. I suspect quite a few of the delisted players would be options for the pre season or mid season rookie drafts (assuming that goes ahead)
