For me we get smashed in clearances way to often . We can blame that on our lack of a quality ruck . But that’s only part of the problem . The best teams run super deep and quality through the mid . We finished near the bottom for a reason we have lots of holes , a strong midfield is we’re our rebirth needs to come from .
Get ready for a Tom Mitchell type reprise from RWO next year: Why isn't so and so getting a game? How many possessions do you have to rack up in the ressies before you get a crack in the seniors?
Followed by: We got screwed again. We took Phillips at pick 3 and gave him away to Hawthorn for a future 3rd rounder. KB should get sacked.
That's the RWO way. It's important to look at the team as a whole and how each player fits into the development trajectory.Comment

Its generally accepted that its harder to find a top key forward or ruck than a good midfielder. Exceptional midfielders like Dusty, Ablett, Judd or Danger are certainly worth their weight in gold. Are any of the midfielders in this draft pool showing that sort of potential? I don't know, but if not, then a top key position prospect might be the best bet. Its always a gamble.Comment

Draft Plan B
If JUH, McDonald and Thilthorpe (I pronounce the name like it was an anglicized Thai name, Tintorp, which is less of a tongue twister) are gone by pick 4, and we don't want Hollands (ACL fear) and are keen on getting a key forward, and GWS hasn't been able to fashion a trade with their 3 top 1st round picks, we could do the following:
- Offer to trade pick 4 in exchange for GWS picks 11 and 14.
- Use pick 11 on Campbell (covers a bid at #7).
- Use pick 14, which will likely become pick 16 or 17 by that point in the draft, for 199 cm forward Nik Cox, rated #23 by Cal Twomey. But Cox is the highest ranked key forward in the draft after the top 3.
- Trade picks 31 and 34 for a future 2nd rounder and late 2020 picks to cover the Gulden bid.
- If Gulden gets bid on before pick 17, then try to work a deal, perhaps with Collingwood, to swap pick 17 for their 2021 1st rounder, which they want to offload. This or a similar deal needs to be arranged in contingency plans before the draft.
- A lot of things could happen, both before and during the ND that could screw up this plan. But it's not that far-fetched as it might sound.
This is the best alternative I could find that gets us a key forward and our academy midfielders in the draft. We would also pick up another 2nd rounder in 2021.Comment

High likelihood is that Hollands and Phillips will be better than any of the young midfielders on our list. Support the young bloods but let's not have a clouded reality at what most of them are. B and C graders and nothing more.
That being said I hope reports of Adelaide's interest in Thilthorpe and NM's interest in Hollands are accurate. In that case... come on down Logan !Comment

My guess, assumes JUH is out of the equation
Thilthorpe to Crows
Hollands to North
Sydney get McDonald
Phillips to Hawks
Hard to go past Hollands as he has more X Factor and reckon North will be more than happy for him to take longer to get his knee right
Any potential deficit will be sorted draft night via later pick swapsComment

With an ACL ....its not so much about getting it right again ......The recovery process is very standard these days. The transition to HIT training is straight forward for most ACL only recons.
Its the intensity of training and game day in a 360 degree jumping leaping sport that makes it tricky not to do an ACL again. I'm pretty sure that its a 1 in 7 chance u will do ur ACL for a second time once 100% intensity HIT training and or game day simulation occurs again.
We have seen this with many AFL players who have had an ACL injury.
Sprinting, jogging, yo yo etc etc it tends to be absolutely fine.
If done twice the likelihood is that the elite athelete show is over.
This is my only reservation with Holland. He brings a true Heeney like game flexibility in FF / Midfield and maybe a little more re speed.
I suspect we can't take the risk vs other options this draft. Its a one in a decade opportunity to stack top10 picks two years in a row and be the icing on the cake like Dustin Martin at pick 4"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Not to harp on about it, but if we'd taken Serong this year, he would arguably already be our third best midfielder.Comment

A long way to go but I think Stephens will end up being a better player than Serong. Serong will be good in the way Worpel is good for Hawthorn. Stephens will be good like Gaff is good for West Coast.Comment

We will have a super deep high quality midfield before any of this year's draftees get going. It's all coming together. Maybe even this next season.

I reckon he will be a chance to be rookied . Swans are up to something fair chance we are into a delisted free agent , there is also some talk on big footy that we’re looking to trade next years first pick for gold coasts this year
