Pretty ruthless to cut Fox. I thought he had a mini break out season in 2020. The only thing I can deduce from that is Gould is going to get his chance in 2021.
With that many gone, looks unlikely we will cut ET? Must be something in his contract that says even if I act like an idiot, bringing the club and game into disrepute, then get convicting for beating my partner, I still can't be sacked.
Must be a tough pill for our delisted players to swallow...............

Zac Foot, Jackson Thurlow, Robbie Fox and Sam Gray have been delisted. Gray is contracted for the 2021 season and the Swans are expected to redraft the experienced forward in the rookie draft in December.

I like the ruthlessness. I feel for Foxy in particular. I haven't had a chance to analyse what it means, how many list spots we have and where the holes are.

The cuts are an indication of just how good our depth is at present, especially after the ND. There's simply not enough room to play everyone. Pick 3 and the academy boys will be wanting, and likely deserving, of early senior opportunities.

It may have come down to a choice between Fox and O'Riordan. It's a toss up, but O'Riordan had a contract, and that may have been the determining factor. Both deserve to play AFL footy.

We should come out of the ND with 3 spots left that could be filled. Perhaps 1 will go to McCartin. We might go into the post draft with 41 or 42 players, instead of the max of 44. It would be a smart move, having pick 3 in the in-season drafts. There should be a good player or 2 worth serious consideration. We let go of some decent players, but so have a lot of other clubs.

Spot on Ludwig we could be big players in the in season drafts . I like it the club has been ruthless and that’s what you need to do when you finish in the bottom handful

I was wondering something similar. I really don't like the idea of retaining somebody who has behaved criminally, when some of the people who have been delisted, are probably of excellent character.

Though it is possible that the AFL are being obstructionist on the issue? Along the lines of, 'yeah, we know that you'd like to delist him, but if we let you do that, then every club would want to get rid of their dud draft picks'. Or maybe it depends on sentencing? If he gets a custodial sentence, then you can delist him, if not, you're stuck with him for another year.

Yes, the cuts could mean that we have our eyes on a player or two, outside of the main draft. Or in a less cheery interpretation, it could mean that we're a bit cash strapped and consequently, we will be going into 2021 with a reduced list size.

Also, since we've moved on Thurlow, Aliir, Fox and Maibaum, that probably means that we have a high opinion of Gould and O'Connor. I'm keen to see both.

To be and to delist Gray, we would have to pay him out a portion of what he is owed, and the delta as a rookie I believe?
Importantly it opens a senior list spot. How many spots are free going in to the draft now?

By my reckoning, we currently have 38 on our list in total. Depending on how you count (it's difficult because they're developed to be versatile), we have:

* 4 tall forwards: Buddy, Reid, McCartin & McLean
* 4 rucks (including ruck-forwards): Naismith, Hickey, Sinclair, Amartey
* 5 tall defenders counting generously: Melican, Brand, Rampe, Gould & BOC
* 5 small pressure forwards: Papley, Squizzy, Sam Gray, Ronke and Wicks
* 2-3 medium forwards: Hayward, Heeney, ET
* 5 smaller defenders: Mills, COR, Lloyd, Ling and Cunningham
* 11 midfielders of various types: JPK, Parker, Rowbottom, Hewett, Clarke, Warner, Florent, Stephens, McInerney, Blakey, Bell

and Dawson, who defies categorisation - you can list him forward, back or mid.

I'm not sure how many are/will be rookies.

We're doing a Matt Kennedy with Gray and moving him to the rookie list, so there's one. Amartey has been a rookie 3 seasons already I think - so is he going have to be promoted? BOC will be another rookie. Probably he and Wicks will continue to fill the Cat B spots. I think McLean can have a 3rd season as a rookie. So that's still two short of our minimum quota of 4 Cat A rookies (if BOC and Wicks are Cat B - although of course we could switch them to Cat A if need be - but I don't think that's likely).

Ronke and Clarke have survived the cull, so far. And so has ET. I think it's becoming increasingly possible that we may retain Elijah, although obviously not if he is gaoled. In that case we'll be glad to have a space on the list come the pre-season rookie draft. I think it's possible that Ronke may be moved to the rookie list

So I'm thinking we will take 3-4 at the draft and 1-2 rookies, and leave one spot free to be filled via delisted free agents, or the pre-season draft or mid-season draft (with extra spots becoming available if there are long term injuries).

I like how we've been reasonably ruthless and kept promising youth at the expense of steady journeymen.

Paddy never realised his pick 1 potential but surely someone should be considering at least rookie-ing him apart from us? I know Carlton looked at him but I get the impression they are probably not going to take him.

Longer term, we also need some more rucks: none of Naismith, Sinclair or Hickey can be counted on to last that long (although it's becoming apparent why we were willing to offer Hickey a 3 year deal) and who knows whether Amartey is going to be good enough to succeed at AFL level. However, for the season ahead, they'll do.

Getting rid of Fox is pathetic. I'm quickly becoming very disillusioned with what the club is doing, and has done for the past few years.

How Ling, Ronke and ET are on the list ahead of him is a crime.

Maybe we know someone who is going to come to the us from the delisted category. I am not sure if anyone in the delisted category offers us more than Thurlow or Fox.

Agree with the Ruck situation.

Take Pick 3 whoever that player might be. We can then wait till Braeden Campbell bid comes in - Match it with the lower picks. Then get into the draft again for Nik Cox or other taller player (Ruck) by trading out our future second if possible and draft him. And then draft Errol.
I think Errol may slide in the current draft. Even though he is very good, I think most clubs are reluctant to take short players over and above taller ones just for the more upside in the taller players and ability to play multiple positions. So I doubt Errol will go before pick 25.
Having 4 players in this draft (in first 2 rounds) may be a good investment for the future as they get 1 more year to play together.

9 delisted, 1 traded, one recruited. We started with 46 on our list now we are on 37 with a max list size of 44. I still think we will punt ET, so assuming no more delistings we will be on 36 heading into national draft.

I suspect the plan will be 3 in ND, 2 rookies then keep 1-3 spots open for anyone who impresses thereafter.
