2020 trading, drafting and list management: players and personnel
Malachy Carruthers...
Is not an expression of surprise but a Swan via the rookie draft. Welcome!
And for those who haven't heard of him, this draft central profile is pretty positive. Essentially a medium defender with a lot of attacking flair, but his skinny physique was probably the main reason for not being taken higher.
Nice to see an ex-academy player taken by Carlton - Luke Parks.
Well done to him.
I wonder if we'll be bringing in a few ex-academy players, as part of our VFL squad? Actually, I was looking for info, this morning, on when our VFL squad will be named, but I couldn't find anything. Any ideas?

I think with the options still available to add players later, it makes sense to leave spots open for that.
Assume Carruthers is a Will Day type - regardless he's going to have to spend the next 2 years in the dungeon if he's still 67kg.
According to AFL draft central, he's now up to 72kg. Though still a way to go.
So our list for 2021 ends up with 42 - 36 players Senior Listed and 6 players Rookie Listed (4 Cat A players and 2 Cat B players). In theory, we can still add two at the pre-season supplemental selection on Jan 6.
-Update-
With Marc Sheather added as Cat B rookie and Wicks upgrade to Cat A, we now have 43 players.

Reason: update
I agree that another running half back hardly seems to be our area of deficiency. I was expecting a project ruckman like others. I'm also feeling sad for Paddy McCartin. I think the selection of McDonald last night may have cooked his goose? Still he may train with us in the hope of being picked up later?
