But defending clickbait AFL media types is not a hill I'd choose to put my stake in and defend for my life!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

COB, you can’t seriously compare Franklin, who gave great service to the Dawks over many seasons, to Dawson who had 1 very good year where he finished third in the B&F. Loyalty to our club could be expected from a player who was nursed for the first few years of his career when his contribution was not much. Chalk and cheese with Buddy.Comment

Loyalty? Gimme a break. Franklin had given the Hawks 8 seasons, most at his peak......we develop a slow learner into a better player and he gives us a season and a half of good footy. Laughable comparison.Comment

As disappointed as I am, and as much as I would like Dawson to show "loyalty" for all the development and investment we have put into him, I don't feel he owes us. There is no loyalty in footy, or not much. In particular, players can't count on the club being loyal to them - as someone else just posted a moment ago, ask Hewett about that. Or Hannebery. Or Rohan.
It can't be a one way street where we expect players to be loyal when they can't be assured that will be reciprocated. The most we can do is make our club an attractive place to be - through on-field success, by being well managed, and by making it a fun, caring and enjoyable place to be. And by using our TPP wisely so we can reasonably remunerate the players. That way we maximise the odds that players will choose to stay with (or come to) us, even if they could get more money elsewhere.
In return for succeeding in this environment, players are rewarded with large sums of money. Indeed, there is the potential for successful players to set themselves up financially for life. Remember that most of us have to labour for many more years than Jordan's football career to achieve similar financial security. By all accounts, Jordan's on-field success is significantly attributable to the coaching he has received during his time at the Swans, and there is reason to believe that he has been handsomely rewarded financially for this success. Accordingly, I think any reasonable person would agree that Jordan owes the Swans a significant level of loyalty. Instead, the club and its fans appear to have been disrespected. Jordan was very late in giving his decision to the club (presumably this may have affected other contract discussions) and along the way he told us that "we had nothing to worry about".Comment

mmm, this loyalty thing... generally, I'm up for it but can we just call a spade a spade here. The players get paid okay. Like any employee,
their "loyalty" to their employer goes out the window pretty quick if the money doesn't appear in their account every Friday. And the
clubs are "loyal" to the players as long as they are playing well. In other words, in relation to footballers and footy clubs, it's a two way street
and it's always greased with money.Comment

It is always amusing to hear people blame primary schools for many of the perceived issues with “ young people “ nowadays and all the pampering that occurs at school.
It is usually someone of a certain vintage with no practical knowledge or experience of the current primary school curriculum that makes these all encompassing statements. Much like previous generations who would bemoan about the young people of the day and their lack of manners , how lazy they were and how easy they had it etc etc .
Followed by how much harder it was in my day I know this to be true as I have been guilty of it myself????
Now I have a vested interest in this subject as I am married to and also the father of Primary school teachers and as such the following comments may contain some unconscious bias but I can assure you that I have heard enough over the last 30 years to feel I have some inside knowledge on the subject .
Schools are not in the business of creating entitled children who are unable to exist in society without the assistance of others.
Parents ( not all but many) create this mindset from an early age and teachers then have to change their belief that the world revolves around them and educate them on how life really works.
Teachers are often also tasked with having to teach children some of the basic life tools such as manners , sharing and consideration for others as these are often not given much weight by parents.
While governments do legislate and then try to enforce laws and regulations that attempt to create an inclusive and all encompassing one size fits all society rest assured the people tasked with implementing this are far more practical and realistic in their application.
Children are taught at primary school that not everyone gets to win and that sometimes life is not fair but that there is merit in trying to do your best.
Now what happens at home is another thing again and I agree that many in society have become accustomed to taking the easy way out when it comes to parenting and as a result have raised dependant and self absorbed individuals who struggle when faced with reality.
Rant over now back to the subject.
We have invested much in Jordan but if he doesn’t want to be here then we have to accept that and look to find a replacement either from within or elsewhere. He was drafted at pick 56 and so it was either great drafting or great luck either way we can do it again .
Any pick or player we can negotiate in return could possibly be classified as a win considering that initial pick.
Although I along with many others do feel that we have not exactly had the greatest of results in trades over the last few years so maybe we are due a good result.
As someone mentioned on an earlier post we had another 17 players on the field during the game he played and we need to focus on moving forward not looking back.Comment

Pick 6 for Saad and pick 16 for Dawson don't seem equitable but it is what it is. I hope we push for Ports 2022 second as well, probably mid 30s but useful in a year when we apparently have academy prospectsComment

I have a memory of Dawson that’s etched in my mind.
In 2018, I was making my way up elevators in the Trumper stand. It was 40 minutes before a night time game. I looked into the Swans SCG gymnasium and there was this lone figure working hard all by himself. It was like Ronnie Coleman working out by himself in the dungeon in the 2000s.
Nobody else was in the Gymnasium. I said to my best mate “who’s that”. He said “Jordan Dawson, guy who plays reserves with that blistering left foot kick”. He was rehabbing all by himself. While his fellow reserves players were most probably entertaining groupies, Dawson was doing rehab.
In the words of TheBloods “Dawson was taking his career seriously”.
He worked very hard to get to his current position from pick 50. Any financial reward Dawson gets from the game he richly deserves.Comment

If the real issue for Dawson is money then the club needs to find it. We can’t afford to lose players of his caliber just when they’ve developed into the elite level. Why do we still have Sam Reid and the salary cap space he takes up? Get rid of him and add that to Dawson’s contract (if it wasn’t there already). Retire Sinclair. Delist Naismith. Trade Bell. Just find the money.Occupational hazards:
I don't eat animals since discovering this ability. I used to. But one day the lamb I was eating came through to me and ever since then I haven't been able to eat meat.Comment

After last night's insipid performance, Port will move heaven and earth to get Dawson. We should ask for this year's first and Hayes, nothing less. Then we can bundle our two first rounders and move up a few spots in the draft.Comment
