At the moment, I’m not sure how I feel about Ladhams.

On one hand, we already have Hickey so Ladhams would not play #1 ruck and I don’t think he’s any better than McLean or Amartey as a forward.

On the other hand, the gulf between Hickey and our next best ruck is huge. We would be in big trouble if Hick was injured for a significant period. Sinkers can fill in for a week or two but we’d be really struggling. Amartey & McLean haven’t shown enough to do the ruck job full time.
Sounds like you are sure how you feel about Ladhams.

I'm not convinced Ladhams is right for us. I would be trying to find a ruckman (not a ruck forward) who has potential and is stuck behind a quality #1 ruck at their team.

This ruck conversation has reminded me of Paul Chambers. I would rather it didn't.

His name is Max Lynch (Collingwood) and is apparently looking at his options at another club. I've not seen a huge much of him, but there was one game this season where he got a chance and looked impressive. He's 23, which is the perfect age for our ruck needs. Old and ready enough to understudy Hickey next year and gradually take over, while we invest in one or more gangly, low-expectations teenagers via the draft and/or academy with the hope that one comes through.

Ladhams vs Grundy in this game - worth a watch

With Kennedy, Bud and Rampes with us in 2022 and our team on the verge of our window...........a strong back up to Hickey in 2022 will be essential in a final series........otherwise we would be in big trouble if Hickey was injured

I’m really not. If push comes to shove, I’d probably decline and hope like he’ll that Hickey replicates his 2021 season for another two years.

Agreed. The other one in a similar boat is Nick Bryan from Essendon. Even younger, but now looks stuck behind Draper (who just quietly is going to be a cracker).

Then again, it'd involve dealing with Dodoro. "Heeney, Papley and pick 12 for Bryan please"

Bryan is a beauty if we are targeting another ruck he is the one . But good luck dealing with Essendon

Greg Clarke is a ready made midfielder who I would love us to target . Is 24 so age profile is like for like for Dawson . Has height 193cm. Was best on ground in the WAFL grand final with 26 touches 14 tackles and 2 goals and had multiple club interviews during the year . Chose not to nominate for the mid year draft.
Should be the first mature age to be drafted

Issue is that if Hickey is injured, we are stuck with Sinclair and giving the opposition an effective 12-18 point start.

Agree. That is the other side of the coin and why I originally said that I wasn’t sure about the whole situation.

It is seriously beyond a joke now. All the blokes they got last year plus Cripps resigning and Walsh next year. The AFL will conveniently look the other way.

No garentee walsh will resign, maybe a club with a your list and salary cap space might make a move for him....

This would be the type of player I can see is trading for and we usually bring at least one player in via a trade. Surely Ladhams would want to be first ruckman and also he is apparently on good coin.

Amarty and McLean are fine as a second ruckman and third tall and Sinkers is a good emergency option but I do feel we need a better second genuine ruckman. If he’s interested then Lynch would seem to tick a lot of boxes.
