Beatson and Dalrymple know, or have an opinion on the strength of this and next years draft, they know our strategy on player types and where they are likely to fall in this years draft. They would also be aware of the bundling of picks needed to move higher up the draft if we have a specific target currently beyond our reach. If this years draft is a crap shoot then the more picks you have in the second round the more chance of bagging a gem cheap.

Look how Richmond seem very keen to move up to the pointy end using their swag of picks as bait. They reportedly want Cows pick 4 for 7 & 15 which seems a very good deal in normal years.

That knowledge would be what's driving the push to get a higher pick for Dawson, when from my perspective, as annoyed as I am to be losing him, I'd take 23 and next years second and move on to other deals. The PSD is a very big lever for the Cows in negotiations.

But we of course don't know anything much about any of this, so we shoot the breeze here :-)

AFL website continually pulls a swifty with articles appearing in the morning or in the evening as "Just now" so you read them and realise it's what you read earlier that day or last night

Hmmm, smart dude but not the best public speaker. Sort of like me (without the smart bit). Anyway, I’m more interested in what goes on behind the scenes and what the outcomes are. Leave the media circus to those who like the sound of their own voice - easier to ignore that way.

Guys, I’m starting to be reconciled to losing Jordan and so we need to be pragmatic as a lot of posters are saying. I’ve changed my mind re letting him go to the PSD- it achieves nothing, in reality.

We should have every confidence in KB and his team to extract the very best deal possible. The lesson for us as Ludwig pointed out, is not to allow a contract to run down when a clearly valuable player is involved. Admittedly it may not have helped us with Dawson if he was so desperate for Mommy’s cooking.

Maskirovka like that would have impressed Georgy Zhukov himself.

Clubs hands were tied somewhat not knowing what the salary cap was going to be until just recently

For all of his underwhelming style, I think Gardiner has managed to change the narrative somewhat around JD, by saying he's as good as any player up for trade this year = on a par with Cerra, who's going for pick 6 plus something.

Lets see if it actually works?

Would he? Port is a better side but Dawson might think that he is more likely to get a versatile role with Adelaide, like he did with us, rather than a hard and fast positional role with Port. I am sure Port would have discussed how they thought they would use him. Dawson is not an in and under player that Port seem to favour.

Ricciuto has now raised the PSD as an option

The longer this discussion goes, the less we know.
I just watched an interview with Beatson recorded prior to last year's (Campbell, Gulden, McDonald ) draft.
His thinking is quite awesome, almost prophetic, as it needs to be.
We work around the top 30% of the draft process on here, be cause that is as far as our limited knowledge and resources permit.
And that's terrific, the reason the forum exists.
But the recruiters have second, third, fourth and fifth options all sorted.
As many of the 'what ifs' as possible are presorted.
                      The whole thing is fascinating.

Exactly. These arrogant scumbags will make no bones about going there and no doubt would most likely secretly prefer that route to get him for free!

They don't care about any goodwill with us and will screw us over with pleasure! We unfortunately will need to accept unders in this case. We just need to make sure we move when the best available unders trade gets offered or else we may miss out all together!

Yep, Jordan pulled the wool over our eyes- unfortunate that he was interviewed at the time and I suppose he didn’t/ couldn’t say anything else, giving us false hopes. Just have to bury it now, just like those Soviet Ministers!

Maybe it’s time for Norf to say how much they’d love to get JD in the PSD (once the CCJ deal is done obvs)

It's pretty clear to me that the Agent's commission is much higher with him going to Adelaide compared to just a top up if he stayed with us. Follow the money.

So says the man who has been at the helm while his club slid down the ladder.

Does anyone believe there's a possibility that Dawson has told the Swans that if they can't get a deal done, he'll stay? I know it has happened with other players in the league who have had a specific wish but are content to stay if it can't be done. (On a lighter note, does anyone know if he's physically moved house back to SA? Can someone check his previous residence please.)
